Re: electric gate opener battery

On the other end of the system, my gate motor went kaput after being flooded at the end of last year. If anyone knows where I can get one for less than the 25k THB I’ve been quoted, I’d be grateful.

Thai Airways - Seating Restrictions for Obese

I was convinced this was an April Fool’s news story but apparently not: https://www.independent.co.uk/travel/news-and-advice/thai-airways-fat-passengers-banned-businessclass-boeing-7879-dreamliner-a8282916.html This strikes me as a total waste of time and towards the bottom of the list of ways Thai ...

Re: Kasikorn and SCB drop internet transfer fees

Kasikorn Bank has charged me 35 THB for an ‘immediate’ transfer of 50,000 (their current maximum interbank transfer amount) and 25 THB for an amount of - I think - less than 30,000.

Re: Treatment for arthritis/rheumatoid arthritis in HH?

Although cartillage doesn’t have a blood supply it can and does regrow, albeit slowly. The suffix ‘-itis’ simply means inflammation, as in tonsilitis, bronchitis, rhinitis, etc. Inflammation is a cell-mediated process and with rheumatoid arthritis in particular, the immune system is attacking the bo...

Re: Road Markings - Help Please

I seem to remember there being markings like this by the school on the right-hand side of the road when going up Soi 88, just past the French butcher’s shop. They were replaced with speed humps, such as they were, when the new drainage was put in and the road resurfaced this past year or so.

Re: The Beer Thread

Having decided not to go down the route of a spiced Christmas beer I’ve scratched the itch of a fruit brew and just made a Cherry Dubbel wort that’s now in the primary fermenter. It’s for an event in June so not something I intend to drink much of myself but I’m toying with an almond, vanilla or oak...

Re: The perfect chip

If you don’t want to parboil, you can dry the potatoes with some kitchen towel. I made potato wedges this evening - with Maris Piper, of course - and after drying them gave them a thin but all-over coating of olive oil. 30 minutes at 180°C with some fresh rosemary to give a classic al forno recipe. ...

Re: Water truck

^^ You’re asking for information around price, which can vary, and reasonable delivery time, which is even more variable! I could be being ripped-off at 500 baht for 6,000l and the delivery time never seems to be as soon as I’d like. I know this isn’t very helpful but you will have to try some thing...

Re: Water truck

I’ve used this guy before, ‭081-801-4166‬ and he charged around 500 THB for 6,000 litres. We’re up near Palm Bistro which is not too far from Banyan Golf Club so it may work.
Good luck.

Re: Smoking ex-pats

MDMK, you’ve taken my point about vapers and added-in the concept of tolerance and then taken degrees of tolerance to entirely new levels. You are advocating that we need to be tolerant “to a degree”, which is a problem when taken with your other point that “one man’s meat is another man’s poison”, ...

Re: Smoking ex-pats

Mrs J.J.B., who has never smoked, commented the other day that she would rather follow someone in the street smoking a cigarette and get second-hand smoke than someone ‘vaping’ and get second-hand vapour. I tend to agree. These billowing clouds of sickly-scented vapour can make you feel quite ill an...

Re: Desiccant sachets for food?

The easiest solution would be to use rice; dried, of course! I first came across it being used in this way in the Caribbean, in a salt cellar to kept the salt from clumping together in the high humidity. It’s also used to dry out phones and suchlike that have been immersed in water. You half fill a ...
