Thailand is already a major user/buyer of American hardware as is the UK .
Come on now, there is a big difference between buying stuff and being able to use it. Putting the UK and Thai military in the same sentence in this regard is laughable.

Re: Bar with shisha

Check out hublyz.com, which was set-up by a former colleague of mine. I'm not sure how successful the venture is but he seemed pretty serious about it. Probably won't help you in Thailand if it's against the law to smoke it though.

Re: Blackout curtains and blinds

Speak to Yao on 08 4729 1017, her team just cleaned our curtains and blinds as well as refitting some blackout material to the back of the type of 'Roman' blinds you describe, which are of similar size. Very good quality, price and responsiveness in addition to very good English.

Re: Buy a good Chair for computer

I bought my office chair from Big Kiang and have no complaints. It has a high, mesh back and can be set quite tall although I think that after 6 years' use the gasket has failed and it gradually sinks down to the bottom setting within a few minutes. However, I think it's your posture and not the cha...

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

What a load of c**p and not even factual! Shameful reporting. Quest is an acquired taste, at best. I have never trusted his delivery and I question his probity as a credible journalist. He's more self-publicist than journalist and falls in the Piers Morgan category of bottom-dweller; anything for a...

Re: The Beer Thread

Is it the new hotel, or 'beach club' as I think the sign says? It's quite a modern, striking design and does look only half finished. I like the sound of the Tuk Tuk cream ale and welcome reports from anyone who gets to sample some of these. As for the ABV for Wheat beers, I'm not sure there is an e...

Re: Bicycle laws in Thailand?

I would guess that someone riding a bicycle demonstrably drunk could be reasonably accused of putting other road users at risk, which would constitute an offence. There are tales of people in the UK being stopped for drunk cycling but I am not sure how genuine they are. With no need for a license, t...

Re: BT Smart talk in Thailand

Hey JJB, I may PM you when I'm back there because last year I tried it and it just wasn't having it (despite being fully set up in UK) thanks Happy to help out if I can. One thing I do remember as being important is that you need to set-up Smart Talk while you are in the UK on your home, BT wifi ne...

Re: The Digital Surgery

If it is the Windows (OS) password it may be fairly straight-forward but the easiest thing could be to reinstall Windows altogether. You may lose some features and installed programs but provided you don't format the hard drive you should safeguard all your personal data such as documents, photos et...

Re: BT Smart talk in Thailand

I have successfully used BT Smart Talk in Thailand but it is a bit of a faff to set-up initially and I prefer to use Skype. Smart Talk has it's own app you have to use that is not great and I think there is a limit to just 60 minutes of call time available. I find that a 10€ credit with Skype seems ...

Re: Prayuth: absolute power means 'I can do whatever'.

"Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely". The second part of Lord Acton's quote you can google and judge for yourself. Seriously, let's remember how this person came to power and what is propping him up; this attitude can hardly be a surprise to anyone. He is answerable to nob...

Re: Bottled Water

We drink bottled water and also use it for cooking. I'm far less concerned about mineral content (pure water would contain none) and only bothered about not ingesting any of the 'nasties' in tap water - I dread to think what's lurking in our tanks. I'm fairly certain I can get all required vitamins ...

They will,...
