Re: Thai Driving License renewal

My driving licence, the one that I obtained 5 years ago after starting this thread, expires at the end of this month. I renewed it at Pranburi last week. I believe if you renew a license the day after it expires, you receive an extra year of validity for the new license. I know I get 6 years (inste...

Re: Health insurance required for all retirement visas?

I just returned from a short trip to Singapore, partly for the purpose of killing my 11 year old OA. Planning to apply for non-O tomorrow.

Re: Coin Counting Machines

About 2 years ago I took a large, un-sorted bag of coins to Bangkok Bank at Blu Port and asked that they be deposited into my account. The bank teller summoned the security guard to come help her count them. They accepted, counted and deposited all of the 1, 2, 5 and 10 baht coins. They returned all...

Re: Tickets and booking trains from Hua Hin

Thanks hhinner! That makes perfect sense. But "begins on" or "starts on 5 January" (or the day before) would make things a clearer. Also. . . does anyone know if train #40 with "second class/air con" has reserved seating? Or is it a free for all? I’m pretty sure that i...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income

I still don't believe it will be an Immigration job. Immigration are there to check on Immigration. The revenue department collect taxes. It's a bit like the bin men popping in to check your plumbing every time they collect bins. But wouldn’t this be a situation very similar to when Thailand starte...

Re: Best Bank in Hua Hin for joint accounts?

Why would anyone need a joint account? The Bangkok Bank app for example has free transfers among all Thai banks. I’m sure there are a number of reasons for having a joint account but I think a good reason is the financial security that comes with either spouse being able to access funds if the othe...

Re: Best Bank in Hua Hin for joint accounts?

My wife and I have a joint account at Bangkok Bank, we’ve never had an issue with them restricting online access on the joint account. I also have a personal account (without wife having access), a Bangkok Bank savings account that I’ve used for years to transfer funds into Thailand so I can accumul...

Re: Retirement Visa Extension and Wise (Transferwise)

Didn't know about that. I use Bluport Branch and get charged B100 when I request a Credit Advice. Had a row with them last year, they wanted B500 for a year's worth of Credit Advice's My monthly bank wire transfers from my bank in the US arrive in my Bangkok Bank savings account. Years ago, when I ...

Re: Solar power setup for your home in Thailand

The cost of the new meter will be about 13,000 baht. Another question, for those that are definitely on PEA power, installed a solar system and then had PEA switch out their meter for a digital meter, did PEA charge them for the cost of the meter or did PEA pay for it ?

Re: Solar power setup for your home in Thailand

A friend bought a house in a relatively new gated community (underground utilities, project power and water.). After having a solar system installed on his roof, he was approached by the manager of the project and informed that he would have to pay the cost of having a digital meter installed to rep...

Re: Solar power setup for your home in Thailand

As mentioned above, only available in certain areas of Bangkok and very difficult to set up, so for 99% of the population it is definitely not an "old wives tale". I’m pretty sure you can register with PEA here in Hua Hin to sell your excess power to PEA, unless they stopped offering that...

Re: What's happened to the milk supply?

I’m surprised that it was so long ago, but back in 2014 there was a shortage of milk, but I don’t think we knew the exact reason why? https://www.huahinforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=25682&hilit=Milk I drink and buy a LOT of milk, shortages such as the one we are experiencing now are not ne...
