Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

Having first settled here in 1990 I actually preferred it then. Perhaps Hua Hin has grown beyond what is needed. Are two large malls necessary and multiple Starbucks? Do we need so many drinking areas. Soi Rainoon used to be a nice residential street. Expansion yes but over expansion?

Re: Registering a Marriage with The British Embassy

In my case I got married in 1990 and had a notarized translation made as part of the process of getting her UK visa. Once in the UK I went to the registry office to check and was not only told that the marriage is fully recognized but that to ask about having a UK ceremony would cast suspicion on th...

Bit of a joke that. Criminals not named, paltry fine related to the profits. TIT.

Bicycle (MTB) parts source

I was advised by a cycling friend not to bring a good bike from abroad and am realising why now. On the rare occasion when parts are available the prices are extortionate and it can take a while to get them from abroad plus they will have to be collected from the post office after you pay the tax. T...

Re: Bringing Golf Clubs into Thailand

Depending on the airline it may be worth getting a business class ticket which would absorb the extra weight. I doubt if you would get stopped at the airport and if so You could say you will be taking them out again later or take the hit. I have brought a full set in before without any problems or b...

Re: Has Hua Hin Traffic Reached Saturation Point?

When I say that I am used to it I mean that I do not react visibly. After many years here I have learnt that is the best practice. It will always cause frustration unfortunately as that is my nature, just something I now let pass quickly as I know that all my attention is needed for driving over here.

Re: Has Hua Hin Traffic Reached Saturation Point?

It might help if the locals learned their way around. I was a totally unneccessary part of this mornings traffic. The wife asked me to take her to a place in Soi 88 and so we came into town on the Pala U road to pick up the neice before Big C. All I was told was Soi 88 and when the niece was in the ...

Re: Fine hike call for ambulance blockers

Perhaps the recent publicity has helped but as has been said, until the respect is mutual and flashing lights mean an emergency and not just a tourist escort or pizza going cold. We all know how poor the implementation of the rules is, in itself something that if addressed would reduce accidents. On...

Re: Fire extinguisher recharge / refill

Usually the extinguisher will have some manufacturers information on it and you could perhaps source a recommended service agent from this source. The ones in places like Market Village or in hotels etc will have a tag indicating when they were last serviced and again, perhaps an address or contact ...

Re: Mobile phone blockers in Hua Hin?

I would say that for most people they have a very limited use. Certainly for parents wanting their kids to go to bed and sleep (where for whatever reason the parents are unable to just confiscate phones/tablets etc) they would be useful. This of course would mean the said parents also losing their c...

Re: New highway planned from Hua Hin to bypass?

Is this just a plan or is it likely to happen. Looks like a lot of new roads including another link over the hills farther north than the one which passes Da Vinci School.

Re: New pedestrian overpass for Market Village

There is a sign saying that the bridge is open temporarily until 16th (and still open on 17th bit TIT). Perhaps getting it open for Songkran was a rush job and they will close it again and get the job finished properly. But there again.......

Re: Govt to ban Songkran water splashing, water guns, alcohol, skimpy clothing - the Songkran 2018 thread

Yes hhinner, that is the temple. After further checks with the wife it sounds like the temple may well be active again soon. It was quite a while ago it shut down due to some murders there. Back to the usual murdering of the locals ears now. I remember going there about 26 years ago to sort out an a...

Re: Govt to ban Songkran water splashing, water guns, alcohol, skimpy clothing - the Songkran 2018 thread

The noise was there this morning for sure and now is the usual heavy bass duh-duh duh-duh with a background of singing, talking and "music". When I drove past the whole truck was vbrating. It sounds like there are competing sources so as I live in the hillside I am probably getting the product of mu...
