Re: The Beer Thread

Formaldehyde for one, probably Formaline also. I've heard that rumor, but I've never seen any real evidence. I have a friend who runs an environmental testing lab in Bangkok. He decided to test Thai beers using the equipment in his lab. He didn't detect any formaldehyde or any other chemicals other...

Re: The Beer Thread

Started brewing my own as I'm not prepared to pay 200 baht a bottle for a decent drop and am sick to the teeth of chemical laced Leo, Singh and Chang. Good for you. Keep us posted. Some photos of the process as well as some sourcing hints would be nice. I'm too clumsy to brew myself but I really ad...

Re: The Beer Thread

I can understand why beer seems boring if you only drink Heineken.

I like to mix it up. Last night I had this beer, brewed in Cambodia by Thai brewers.

Re:

I suppose someone in Korat must know. If not the cable company, then someone in a shop selling STBs should know. The problem may be finding that person. The chronic problem in Thailand: Finding the guy who really knows…. A few years back I lost the ability to ftp to my web host which is located in ...

Re: Digital Cable TV Woes

I'm still wondering why neither of my STBs will find any of the digital cable channels broadcast by Korat Cable TV. I wonder what frequencies they're using….

Re: Digital Cable TV Woes

If they're using frequencies in the broadcast dtv range (474 - 858 MHz) then you can probably use a standard DTV set top box. I just tried this with our cable and I got some digital channels through a standard digital broadcast STB. I tried it with a couple standard digital TV boxes and got no chan...

Re: Digital Cable TV Woes

The cable TV company here in Korat finally started digital broadcasting. We asked them about a tuner for our analog-only TV. They don't have, and told us to just buy one. Of course, all the converters I've seen locally are for broadcast frequencies only and cannot tune digital cable frequencies. So,...

Re: Digital Cable TV Woes

Yeah, I had seen that, but nothing seemed to fit. I will try the reset solution next time I'm there.

I'm sure the TV is in home mode as that's something I checked last week.

Thanks.

Re: Digital Cable TV Woes

I checked when I was there last week and the firmware is up-to-date. I asked my wife, and she says that last time we got there (last week) both the digital and analog channels were out. However, when I rescanned I only scanned for digital channels. I'm only there for five or six days each month, so ...

Re: Digital Cable TV Woes

There haven't been any power interruptions recently. I leave the power on when I'm away and the TV, while switched off, still has power for its standby mode. I run a webcam from the condo which uploads an image every four minutes, so I would know if there has been a power outage. I should add that I...

Digital Cable TV Woes

At my Cha Am condo I have a Samsung TV that has a digital tuner. My condo has an in-house cable TV system that provides dozens of both digital and analog channels. I just scan the digital channels and this seems to work fine. The TV displays all the static metadata as well as program schedules, etc....

Re: Hua Hin declared as a rabies stricken state

I got the series of five shots this year after being bitten up near Lake View golf course. The shots were not painful nor were there any side effects. I got the first two at the clinic in Cha Am, the next at the health center near my home in Korat, another at the clinic in Don Mueang (on the way to ...

Re: Best mobile sim package

I live in Korat. We have a DTAC family package which costs 1000 baht a month and gives each of us (three people) vast quantities of talk and SMS time and 1 GB of high speed data and unlimited low speed data. An extra 1GB of high speed data costs 49 baht. Coverage seems fine. The only place where we ...
