Re: Can you help identify the Buddha image style?

All very interesting. And having quickly read up on this and that the centre of Gandharan Buddhism was much further to the North and West, encompassing India and Afghanistan, is how such an image came to be in Phetchaburi in the first place? I was wondering the same thing. A style from two thousand...

Can you help identify the Buddha image style?

The photos below were taken in the cave that is up and behind Wat Tham Chaeng (วัดถ้ำแจง) which is adjacent to and reachable from the new Phetchaburi Immigration building. I've been there several times, but this last time I noticed that the large Buddha image inside is rather unusual for Thailand. T...

Re: The Beer Thread 2

Carabao owns CJ, and they're in direct competition with CP/Chang/Singh, which is a good thing. I was told that they're running a promo on their beers for Songkran. Still a shame that the small breweries have to charge so much for their products and availability is limited due to the monopolies' con...

Re: The Beer Thread 2

When visiting the local CJ Mart here in Korat was surprised to see all the Carabao/Tawandaeng beers (known locally as เบียร์เปา - Beer Bao) are heavily discounted at less than 50 baht for the large (490ml?) cans. The IPA is 49 baht while the lovely lager is 44 baht. I hope this doesn't spell the dem...

Re: What's the attraction of living in Cha-am?

I first visited Hua Hin in 1991 while waiting for a Lao visa with my late friend "Mr Huge", who was a member here. I loved the place and visited often. In 1997 Mr Huge bought a condo south of Cha Am, just north of the Regent Hotel. I loved that even more. Why? It's quiet. It's not yet over...

Re: Videos: Portrait vs Landscape Mode

I have to apologize. This was intended to be a humorous post that might make people laugh, or at least smile.

Instead it has devolved into a semi-acrimonious discussion that I don't understand at all.

I'll leave this thread and leave it to rest of you to hash out.

Re: Videos: Portrait vs Landscape Mode

Landscape and portrait mode depend entirely on how you're holding your phone when you shoot a video. There's nothing to do in settings. If you hold your phone horizontally, then the video will be in landscape mode. If you hold your phone vertically when you shoot a video, it will be in portrait mode...

Indeed, I fully admit that there are times when portrait mode is suited to the tasks. Yosemite Falls, for example.

Re: Videos: Portrait vs Landscape Mode

I’m not sure I understand the issue. I only make landscape mode videos and have never had any platform rotate a horizontal video to vertical orientation. I don’t sing or dance well enough to chance TikTok, but a little research revealed that they accept both vertical and horizontal videos.

Videos: Portrait vs Landscape Mode

One of the things that trouble this old man is the nearly universal trend for people to use portrait mode when making videos with their phones. The other day the morning news showed a user-taken video of monkeys on a rampage in Lopburi. The video was in portrait mode so most of it was either sky or ...

Re: Thailand tourism situation

For reasons that continue to baffle me, my wife has, over the past few years, gotten an awful lot of business from the Eastern Seaboard; especially Chonburi. Last night we spent another night at the Jomtien Palm Beach hotel as she had a court appearance this morning. One thing I've learned is that i...
