Re: Thailand to introduce compulsory travel insurance/tourist tax
A bit of nostalgia. I've been to one of Mrs BB's old passports, and there are a couple of 1,000฿ tickets still stapled in there.

Re: Thailand to introduce compulsory travel insurance/tourist tax
Was the 500฿ 'everybody' tax before or after the 1,000฿ 'Thai' tax? I remember paying the Thai tax (1990), but not the everybody tax.

Re: Thailand to introduce compulsory travel insurance/tourist tax
I don't remember that one, but I remember the 1,000฿ tariff for Thais leaving Thailand. I'd just given all of my remaining Baht to the Outlaws who had come to see us off. I was not too pleased.

Re: Thailand Air Quality and Pollution Alerts
Its amazing only people not in authority can see that. 9 times out of 10 there will also be a lot of workers in the field ensuring the burning stays under control.

Re: Thailand Air Quality and Pollution Alerts
Every year they tell us it is illegal, and they will clamp down on it. Every year I travel around, and I can see burning carrying on quite openly. Every year I don't see anybody making any attempt to stop it. If I can see it, why can't the authorities? They talk the talk, but nobody is actually inte...

Re: Flights to/from Thailand status, news, and updates
Of course, but the fact the airport functioned at 105,000 passengers per day, and that is actually 38,000,000 / 365, so daily numbers would have well exceeded that number. Now they want to throw a load of money at what looked to be a pretty good airport on Sunday to upgrade it to handle less than 40...

Re: Thai Minimum Wage Increase
Yes, the policies sound great, but are taking the country further and further into the red. Solution, lets borrow a lorry load of money and give everybody 10,000฿.

Re: Flights to/from Thailand status, news, and updates
That article alone says a lot. It used to cater for 105,000 passengers a day, but now caters for 20,000.
Obviously a lot of brown envelopes involved spending that huge sum of cash expanding the airport to 40% of what it used to be
Bonkers.

Re: Thai Minimum Wage Increase
But the tax isn't paying the wage increases. That extra cash has to be found by the employer, which will be funded by higher prices. If Gov't policy wants a wage increase, they should be funding the difference, but they don't.
