Re: UK Retirees to face cuts in Pensions

A member of this forum (sadly now deceased) moved here without telling the authorities in the UK (DWP for example). It was later discovered that he lived in Thailand and was forced to pay back the overpayments. I think when he died his pension was cut by 50 quid a month. I have a good idea who you'...

Re: UK Retirees to face cuts in Pensions

nowadays there are so many things that you have to declare to various institutes Such as? It's hard to identify occasions when you would need to physically present yourself, aside from jury service - but even then they will cancel a jury summons now for the slightest reason - the court service does...

Re: UK Retirees to face cuts in Pensions

Why does anyone entitled to a state pension ever admit to leaving the UK?

Not hard to find an address to have mail sent to, and the powers-that-be have very little idea where people are..

Re: 'How To' - Requirements for visa extensions etc

Went to Bluport today to try out the visa extension service for the first time today. I've been saying they should cash in on this for years to save people the cost of a visa run and make money at the same time - amazed they've actually done it. As I only had a tourist stamp in my passport, I decide...

So finish the story--let me guess. In HH by 8.30-- shower, change, quick meal, In R bar by 9.30. Rang the bell. UT is back in town!
Nearly - hit the R bar at 8.50 and had a pizza there..

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

Touched down 16.23 yesterday, 450m walk to immigration - but only three people ahead of me, so through in five minutes. Changed some cash then bags arrived promptly - glanced at my watch as I cleared the green channel - 16.54

31 minutes - not bad!

Out of interest, on the Thai insurance circuit as opposed to the travellers one, what sort of cost does annual medical cover come in at?

Re: Hua Hin Airport to Operate International Flights by End 2017

because they need the means to fly into the airport in good weather and bad Yes, but think about the weather in Hua Hin - how often would ILS be necessary? Does it ever get misty enough in HH to cause a problem for aircraft? - I've never seen it like that (although I'm rarely up at dawn..) Yes, the...

Re: Travel insurance - check the small print..

One thing people tend to overlook in these policies is the need to have a license for the vehicle you are operating i.e. motorbike.
Strangely, I have never felt any desire to get motorised in Thailand, and get around quite happily on foot or by bus..

Re: Travel insurance - check the small print..

The Nationwide deal is fine if you have an account with them, but if you don't, you have to go through all the bells and whistles of opening a bank account before you can sign up. I have just taken out a 'Light Premium' annual travel policy with InsureAndGo which allows trip lengths of up to 90 days...

Re: Hua Hin Airport to Operate International Flights by End 2017

Airlines like Air Asia have their place, but I do wonder if Thai airways realise how many more passengers would be swayed to using their services from Europe, if they ran connecting flights down to HH? I will shortly be flying over on EVA, because they were a little cheaper than Thai; but that cost ...

Re: Opening a bank account which bank?

Just to add my 2c.. I have a Bangkok Bank 'Be 1st' account which is simplicity itself. All you need is your passport, and a friend in Thailand who will let you use their address for correspondence purposes. Although I took a Thai friend with me to help translate when I set up the account, the lady i...

Checking 'other' sites, March 1st does indeed look like being the one and only bar closure day in the next qtr.

Travel insurance - check the small print..

My annual multi-trip travel insurance renewal came through yesterday - with no overt suggestion that anything material had changed in the cover, but I clocked that the premium had gone down on a year ago.. So, poring through the small print I noticed that the maximum trip length had reduced from 90 ...
