Re: Buddhism in crisis?

I remember a time when monks wouldn't touch money. Those times are gone, I was with my partner in one of the Wats in Hua Hin last year, I sat politely aside during chanting etc. and then when trying to leave, was assailed by a salesman monk who tried to get me to buy, amongst other things, a stuffe...

I don't think that is correct!
Back in 2015 the Junta announced that all privately owned firearms had to be surrendered but I don't know if it was ever enforced in any way.

Re: Air rifle

Proper air rifles require a licence the same as any other firearm.
The Junta banned all privately owned firearms a couple of years a go but I don't know if that measure was ever rescinded.

I know what you mean BB, I was walking along the beach towards Khao Takiap a couple of weeks ago in the rain and had to wade through a sizeable river that had appeared at one point.

Has anyone noticed that the price of a one way is almost the same as a return?
It's always been like that but a couple of times in recent years I've had to buy a single ticket due to changed plans and both times I got a good deal with Indian based airlines for flights from Bangkok to the UK.

Re: Internet speed drop from exchange

Not really sure why people need crazy speeds for personal home use.
I found out why when I was trying to stream a music concert while three younger Thai visitors and family members were playing online games on their phones!

Why doesn't it matter if you're on fiber?

Who has fiber to their house?
I've got 3bb fiber broadband to my house in Hua Hin. Basically with fiber optic cable you get much less loss of signal strength over long distances.

Re: Should I take a taxi to the airport early morning

Obviously your personal situation plays a big part in it, for those of us working away from home, you don't want to spend any more time away than you possibly can but if you're retired with all the time in the world, then losing half a day at home is not so important. I did the early morning run a c...

Re: Taxi to BKK Airport

It's obviously an individual choice on whether to travel at that time of the morning, but if you decide to go ahead as planned, then if you leave at 3.00 am you should comfortably reach the airport by 6.00 am. That's exactly what I do for early flights, at that time in the morning you can just slee...

Re: Sunday Brunch at hotels

For those looking for "free flow", that Coffee Club place behind the Hilton has a sign outside offering it on beer and wine from 12-2pm and 6-8pm for 149bt when ordered with a meal, which doesn't sound too bad a deal.

I cycled it yesterday and there was the odd motorcycle on there but not enough to cause a problem.

Re: New bike path on Highway 4

I've just been for a cycle this afternoon and they've now put some parking in at the Hua Hin end, just before the Vetinary university, which is handy for taking the bike by truck.

Re: Hua Hin International Jazz Festival 2017

Yes, I'm not in anyway a fan of Jazz but I had a wander around last night and it seemed to be a very well organized event with a good attendance. When you consider it's free, it was really quite impressive. I walked past again this evening at the end of my beach walk and it was still pretty busy jus...

TIA Binlid I remember walking the beach a while back and the Chiva Som was offering a deal like that with free flow wine. I plan on heading past later today and I'll see if the notice is still th...

I remember that some years a go, three members of a farming family in Northern Ireland died in similar circumstances in a slurry pond.
