Although I despise the commercialization of Christmas, I do love to see pretty decorations, and those are impressive. Twinkling lights just put me in a good mood (even though I can be bah humbuggy about Xmas).

Humbuggy is now my favorite word in the English language so thank you for that VS!

....there are plenty of software and hardware wallets available for extra security. Like this guy?: A MAN who stored $140 million of Bitcoin on a hard drive that he accidentally threw out now wants help to dig through landfill to find it. http://www.news.com.au/finance/money/investing/man-who-threw...

Re: Bitcoin mining and cryptocurrency thread

Considering the unregulated nature of Bitcoin and some of the countries where the infrastructure of trading is being run from, I'm left with a suspicion that events like the "loss" of $64million of Bitcoin in Slovenia the other day could be insider jobs. https://in.reuters.com/article/cyber-nicehash...

I always go into that food court place next to the bus counter but I agree it's not exactly fancy!

Re: Death of a Pet

Yes, sorry to hear that Pete, the last Thai mutt that we lost was one my partner had in Issan and he was getting so old that it was inevitable but it must have come as a bit of a shock to lose one at that age.

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

Do I buy seats on both and abandon one? Normally I'm not that critical on time so I just allow an hour or two but I'm arriving on the 25th December this time so am planning buying tickets on two bus services to make sure I don't get to town too late. I don't check in baggage so I can normally make ...

Sadly I don't even have a dog but I'm enjoying reading this thread and picturing all your lovely canine companions.... My three Thai dogs are all adopted strays and they already have a better life than me without feeding them on steak or whatever, there is a business near my home which is a kennel ...

Re: Help identifying this pool filter

In French, it is a filtre lesteur.
I've just asked a couple of native French speakers and they suggested it could be "lecteur" which would mean it might be a filter differential pressure detector.

Re: Bitcoin mining and cryptocurrency thread

Yes, the whole thing is unsustainable, apparently it now takes something like 200 kwh of electricity to "mine" a Bitcoin, that is plain lunacy. Transactions are slow and expensive and it's not possible to scale it up to the size it would need to be a usable currency. Maybe but then why are Litecoin...

Re: Thai women second fattest in Asia

I'm not sure rice is a factor, look at the physique of the women in Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam, all countries big on rice. The Seven-11 virus across Thailand is more likely the culprit. Thailand has about three times the GDP per capita as those four countries: Thailand, $16,835, Myanmar, $...

Re: Cocktail bars

On the subject of cocktails, I've noticed on my beach walks a poster for a "Cocktail Buffet" at a place called The Rock which I think is a hotel in Khao Takiap. I think it was something like 600bt for a couple of hours on a saturday evening.
