Re: Isaan restaurant in Hua Hin?

There is/was also a very popular place a short distance to the south of San Paulo Hospital and the market. In fact, I think there is a thread on the forum about the place I'm referring to but I wouldn't know where to start looking.

Re: Kids Talent school..recommended for learn dance/instruments/Gymnastics

Great. If my daughter does do some gymnastics, it will only be for the fun of it, and will almost certainly only be on weekends because week days are already crammed full, and she also has karate which, other than school, comes first. Of course, it will also depend on what the cost is. :D

Re: Kids Talent school..recommended for learn dance/instruments/Gymnastics

Thanks for posting. I'll go take a look because I know my oldest daughter would love to do some gymnastics but not sure if we could fit it in with her schooling and her karate

Re: Is pla-ra safe to eat?

I think I should perhaps have been a bit specific with regards to the comments I posted about pla-ra. The pla-ra I was referring to is the "real" pla-ra which is the pla-ra of choice for most dia hard Isaan folk, the foul smelling stuff with lumps of semi-decayed fish and little white beasties wrigg...

Re: Shark Attack - Had Sai Noi

HHTel "It always amazes me" Well it doesn't amaze me most of the posts are in English and doubt many locals read this forum it would be more prudent regarding sharks and sea life around Hua Hin for a English speaker to ask a local with local knowledge, who have far more knowledge on this subject, t...

Re: New pedestrian overpass for Market Village

This brought home to me that something needs to be done, but I'm not convinced a bridge will be the answer. A couple of well marked 6 inch high humps across the road would be a good start. Personally, I think all pedestrian crossing here should have a system installed where spikes pop up when the l...

Re: Shark Attack - Had Sai Noi

It's salt water, there's sharks in it. Only an idiot would believe otherwise. Some even don't mind fresh water, and Bull shark is notorious for that, and a nasty bugger. One to give a wide berth to if seeing. Bull shark a good suspect for a taste test, unless just an oops, sorry, not food, didn't k...

Re: Housekeeper/cook Nov27-Dec2 Hua Hin

I've just discussed this with one of my Thai family members and she would be very happy to do this for you. She lives with us so I can say with all certainty that she is a hard worker, regularly cleaning about 3 or 4 houses per day, and yes, she sure can cook as well as long as it is Thai food you w...

Re: Is pla-ra safe to eat?

Dannie..Somtam is healthy food and is appropriate to this climate, What does the BBC know! British food is good and tasty but all stodge and all grease! Everything fried in fat! Is that healthy? I remember having fried bread with pork dripping for breakfast in the 50's before going to school, not h...

Re: Is pla-ra safe to eat?

"Pla ra is a traditional Thai seasoning produced by fermenting fish with rice bran or roasted rice powder and salt fermented in a closed container for at least six months. Pla ra is mostly used in northeastern food such as green papaya salad" If it is fermented in salt and sealed jar for six months...

Re: Govt to ban Songkran water splashing, water guns, alcohol, skimpy clothing - the Songkran 2018 thread

Well, I went out and about with some kids on my fully loaded Songkran battle saleng on Friday, and as usual, we all had a good time. This year we opted for the main road rather than the klong road as we made our way into town. No water throwing seen on the main road, which is why I chose that route,...

Re: Is pla-ra safe to eat?

You generally get two types. The one is just a very stinky brown liquid, while the other still has bits of semi-decayed bits of fish in it, along with the worms which have already been mentioned. Both versions are a health risk, and quite a serious risk. Yes, old Somchai up north has been eating i f...

Re: Shark Attack - Had Sai Noi

Can't really see much from the photos posted, but from what I can see, it certainly does not look like he was attacked by a shark. Of all the shark species there are, only a very small number are know to attack humans, and even then, they will typically be adult sharks, or at least adult-sized shark...

Re: Things you had better get used to living in Thailand

I recently signed up here in the hope that there may be some useful postings. I am still looking! In the main it is a series of bitching and moaning from, in the main, people who can’t afford to live here and compare everything with home. Never mind the Thais, some of whom I find delightful, the we...
