I went to BKK bank again. They absolutely refused to issue a Visa based debit card.

SCB wanted proof of marriage, retirement visa wasn't enough.

The Be1st smart debit card is a Visa debit card according to the bank's web site. Yes and a handful of retailers none are common here. I hope this will change since a chip card is a lot safer, but as of now those new cards are an inconvenience. I use my card mostly in ATMs, Tesco, Macro, Home Pro and Villa Market. If I where to change to the chip card I think it will only be ATM...

Bangkok Bank has stopped using Visa debit cards.

The new card is useless except at a few places.

I'm a smoker. I have never understood why smokers don't put out their butt and dispose of it properly. Mine go in my pocket until I find a recepticle.

Have to say, in 2 years living in Thailand, I've never had an unpleasant experience with the police. That includes Phetchabun and all points south of there.

Sure, the road blocks are irritating when you want to get somewhere, but life in Thailand.
