Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
Maybe I am missing something regarding retirees living off pension income. Are not all pensions taxed at source ? They certainly appear to be in the U.K. The Inland Revenue issue a statement each year to all tax payers of gross income along with the tax deducted. Would it not simply be a case of pr...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
Exactly, but people love to scaremonger. These changes get issued every couple of years (usually just before Christmas), and initiate a lot of discussion. They rarely turn out to be anywhere near as bad as some people seem to wish. The dual tax agreement has been mentioned from the outset, but it s...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
On the UK side, there's a current push to close bank accounts if you're not a UK resident. Pension companies are also aiming to stop depositing pensions abroad. The new revenue tax issued will likely be challenged in the courts according to the Thai Examiner: The change in tax interpretation in Tha...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
...— from employment, a business carried on overseas, or property situated overseas — that is brought into Thailand should be subject to personal income tax.... Does a pension or investment income come into that? Yes definitely - thats the low hanging fruit. Investment income will be subject for ta...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
It's been published in the Royal Gazette - you just need google and a thai speaker/reader to find the official document but it is also confirmed here https://thailand.postsen.com/live-style/194764/Collection-of-foreign-income-tax-has-been-announced-by-the-Royal-Gazette-effective-1-Jan-2024.html Here...

The Forthcoming Foreigner Tax
I am sure there was a thread already open for this but can't find it? (also apologies if the below has been mooted before) However the new taxation arrangement for foreigners from Jan 1st 2024 has now been published in the Royal Gazette so IS definitely coming. It's mooted the banks will be doing al...

The new Samsung Windfree A/C's are the way forward (though bit pricey) - use dramatically less power and are self cleaning so none of the pesky 500 baht quaterly cleans!

Re: Solar power setup for your home in Thailand
A friend bought a house in a relatively new gated community (underground utilities, project power and water.). After having a solar system installed on his roof, he was approached by the manager of the project and informed that he would have to pay the cost of having a digital meter installed to re...

Nice idea and probably highly satisfying if it comes off but my patience levels rule that out completely!PeteC wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 4:17 pm Certain grass seed seems to be available if you want to start from scratch.

Re: Lawn grass
Drive south on Petchakasem towards Pranburi. About half-way on the left is a grass shop. Mali for shaded areas, Nual Noi for sunny areas. 081-2533827, 085-8717655, 099-1288830. Hope this helps. Thanks I actually bought the stuff I'm about to tear up from that place :( What I found is they piled it ...

Lawn grass
Not the weed type - but I'm trying to find some decent quality grass. The old stuff that you tend to buy from the sides of the road is crap, full of holes and usually dies in the shade.
Does anyone know of a good supplier around here, possibly even an importer of some good stuff?

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
Not sure if this is a stupid question. How would the Thai authorities identify that money transferred into Thailand is 'income' as opposed to savings for example. Whoever you have your savings with will usually provide a tax certificate at the end of each financial year to show how much they've tak...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
Its a good question, and I don't know the answer as its all a big can of worms. They're going to have to set up some serious banking surveillance if they want to fully implement and enforce this. and that is exactly how they will do it imo. All UK banks report to the BofE (and must if ordered by a ...

Re: Current Sunday Roast availability
Been to Raffertys Sunday Roast several times, always ok, went to Harry's yesterday.
Harrys is better imo. The lamb is UK quality and the mint sauce perfect, not the usual riddled with fat you frequently get here when you ask for lamb.
