Re: All imported goods now face 7% VAT
Amazed nobody has commented on this, it will affect all purchases from Lazada that are not local. That said, stuff may still work out cheaper from China ... got a feeling this is a knee-jerk reaction to the elephant pants fiasco. Please tell me about the 'elephant pants fiasco'! Actually, I'm now g...

Re: Buying naan bread in Hua Hin
Makro have a good selection of frozen Indian breads. Their parathas fry up well, I don't know about their naan. I may have seen fresh (well, unfrozen) naan in Villa Market, maybe someone else can confirm this.

Re: Making a good stew (Beef or other)
A curry is most definitely a stew. The fact that Westerners use the word and Asians don't is irrelevant. People decide which meat and other ingredients they want to use, put them in a pot and cook it slowly, that's what stew means. Local 'definitions' may deviate (Lancastrians note), just as a cooke...

Yep, that's as I said. Don't know what's wrong with my application then. Thanks.

Re: The 90 Day Report Thread
I've reported online for years, but the service now has a problem it seems. My report last week was rejected, the email telling me so quoted: 'incomplete information provided'. I tried again yesterday and again rejected, no reason given this time. My reporting date is next week. I filled in the form...

Re: Tax residency in Thailand and taxing overseas income
Having checked the UK's double taxation agreement with Thailand, and as all of my income comes from the UK, I am really not bothered about this new taxation. All I am waiting for is if I am required to report details of my UK income, where and how do I do so? I agree. I only have UK income, and tha...

Re: Dubai airport (DXB) flooded
I too was caught up in the chaos and mayhem at Dubai airport after the storm. We arrived at 0300 on Wednesday and finally departed to BKK at 6pm on Friday. The airport went into meltdown. No Emirates staff to be seen, no accommodation offered, no food and an 8.5 hour melee in the connections office...

Re: Hua Hin water shortage
Has anybody else noticed the different smell of water since Songkran? My daughter (doesn't live at my house) mentioned it a couple of days ago. She doesn't have a tank, and says the (she thinks its chlorine) smell is very strong. We have a massive tank, but the smell is gradually becoming more prom...

Re: Dubai airport (DXB) flooded
I used to work in the region and witnessed some fairly drastic storms, but these were normally in November or December so no doubt another link to the impact of global warming. Dubai government sent seven cloud seeding planes up on Monday and Tuesday, but they are denying that that could be even pa...

Re: Dubai airport (DXB) flooded
Thursday morning, and Emirates have announced that they have lifted the suspension on check-ins. A few flights took off yesterday before the suspension started. My daughter's friend was one, after a 7 hour delay. The knock-on effect will be huge for a while, and I'm sure Emirates will prioritize the...

Re: TV series worth watching/downloading
Are you talking about Netflix's 3 Body Problem or the Chinese TV adaptation Three-Body ? I suppose that particular criticism is true of the latter also, even though it's far superior IMO. Comments I've seen here seem to generally refer to the Netflix show, but don't use the correct titles. :) Yes, ...

Re: Dubai airport (DXB) flooded
I'm in Dubai. Changed my flight back to Thailand from Tuesday until tomorrow (Thursday). But no check-ins were allowed today at all so tomorrow will be horrendous and can imagine my flight being delayed or even cancelled (less likely). I'm not prepared to stay in a hotel booked by Emirates overnight...

Re: TV series worth watching/downloading
Enjoying 3 Body though I feel its a little rushed, whereas the novels were more of an epic saga spanning centuries. Are you talking about Netflix's 3 Body Problem or the Chinese TV adaptation Three-Body ? I suppose that particular criticism is true of the latter also, even though it's far superior ...
