Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization

There's a difference between trading partner help, and forced colonization of the past. Forcing a signed treaty with a 'man of war' parked a the dock is anything but fair trading. Why the 'empires' had been revolted against and thrown out. Now things such as the 'CommonWealth' are nothing more than...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization

According to one Roman account, Britain was "The home of men who are complete savages who live a miserable existence because of the cold"! Hmm, so wots changed then? :rasta: The only way they could colonize Australia was by sending out the people they used to hang. Yep it wasn't meant to be a colon...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization

Occupiers or Colonisers--Their motivations are much the same--exploit and plunder. Civilising and helping the local population was done only to serve the colonizers interest. One of the things that the British did much better than other colonizers was to develop a small local middle-class. These lo...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization

Not too many benefits in India, Pakistan, The middle east, Africa. The British took over, made a mess and left it a mess. Ditto the French, Spanish and Portuguese. Most of the European messes have been cleaned up the British messes remain. I often wonder why the Middle Easterners are always mad at ...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization

When I hear that Thai was never colonized, I look sad, lower my head and say "I'm sorry, i can't think why you weren't colonized" Malaysia and S'pore are unusual--when they hear a British accent, sooner or later they say with a big smile "we used to be a British colony, you know" Better advertiseme...

Please go up to owners who have not cropped their dogs' ears and shake their hand, letting them know why you are doing it.

Re: The Beer Thread

Pete, do you think beer goes stale more quickly in can or bottle? The taste is different anyway, I know. And beer in cans probably suffers worse temperature variations in shipping, or maybe I'm talking rubbish there?

Re: Thailand fuel/pump prices

But also crude oil is at it's highest price since late 2014. It's easy to blame everything on a heavy-handed government or a non-competing oligopoly.

Re: The Beer Thread

Getting back to our local brew. My local wholesaler ran out of my preferred Archa so I was drinking Chang last week. I felt awful: tired, aching legs, and a little bit woosy during the day. I put it down to dehydration, but my colleague said that he felt the same. He bought some Changs from the loc...

Re: Treatment for arthritis/rheumatoid arthritis in HH?

I have no idea if the cartilage is re-growing, how can one tell? All I know is that within a few days of first treatment things were getting better, it took a few weeks before I could walk unaided. Now after 3 months I have no problems at all, still on the meds for another three months. In 2006 I h...

I certainly accept that caller was not insulting me (apart from calling me preachy, no worry), as he didn't understand the full meaning of the word
Boy are you dim. Frontal lobotomy?
Alright enough with the insults now. Getting childish.

Re: The Beer Thread

^ I've tried almost all the Rogue ales and beers produced starting back in the 80's and most are really good. Very surprised to hear that they are a Makro. Makro usually have a very small selection of different craft beers, but I can't say whether they keep the same brands from month to month. Does...
