Corruption? Hardly news. TIT.

I believe that pages 2-4 of Bangkok Post should not be named 'national', etc. - 'graft' would be more fitting. Every single day, billions of Baht gone astray and never any reports of culprits ever jailed. The anti-corruption team even being torn off a strip by Chan-O-Cha for daring to ask him to tak...

Re: Heavy crackdown looms on Uber, ride-sharing apps

Whenever I check Uber/Grab fares they are always quite a bit more than a taxi on the meter. You are confusing the two. Uber use private cars, Grab is a booking service for licenced metered taxis. There is a 20 Baht booking fee, but the meter starts from your pick-up point, and you have the car numb...

Re: The Baguette

I agree about their baguettes being fairly ordinary I find this statement fascinating. To me, a baguette is a baguette, some maybe a little crispier, harder or softer than others, but it's still a baguette. So how do you improve on a baguette? After the improvements, is it still a baguette or somet...

Re: Heavy crackdown looms on Uber, ride-sharing apps

Whenever I check Uber/Grab fares they are always quite a bit more than a taxi on the meter. The shame is not so much that private services are under pressure not to operate, but that the failure of the government to stop licensed taxis extorting the public. Even Thais utterly hate their taxi service....

Re: Driver's licence health rules to become stricter

No mention of being able to drive safely with or without one of those illnesses. I wonder how many drivers with elephantiasis have caused accidents. If you get to close to elephants can you catch elephantiasis? Is elephantiasis never forgetting stuff? I certainly don't have it. I don't remember. We...

Re: The Baguette

We always take the turning before (immediately after the palace), and walk the last 20 yards - we've never failed to find a space down there. Mrs BB likes to mooch around the fruit stalls etc down that road. I love the egg & mayonnaise baguettes, which are as good as the MOD canteen in the UK :D Eg...

Re: Human fetuses found among household garbage in Hua Hin

I assume you mean 6 and 8 months of pregnancy and I'm apt to agree with you on termination in the last trimester. However, the law states that a termination can be done up to 28 weeks. That's 7 months pregnant and babies have been born and survived at less. Aborting a viable foetus is always conten...

Re: Thailand 'least miserable' country on Earth

I'm glad to read that Thailand appears as the least miserable country, but perhaps worth noting that this outcome is based on a set of factors deemed by the organisers to be representative of miserableness/happiness. Whether those factors are clear indicators of peoples' overall miserableness is di...

Re: Driver's licence health rules to become stricter

There's something on Thai news now confirming the stricter licensing requirements, so if the original criterion sticks, I guess my driving days are numbered, Also saying the medical certificate can only be obtained from a registered hospital in future. Oh well sh*t happens. Just have to wait to see...

Thank you for the explanation. I've never been a fight and have no knowledge of these things.
You're more than welcome, although you don't have to be particularly pugnacious to pick up the parlance of pugilists! :)

Re: Immigration 24 hour address registration clampdown starts in Phuket

Last time I did 90 day reporting I timed it--I was in and out in 17 mins--I think that is an excellent service. You may consider it an excellent service, however I would categorise it as a gross and unnecessary intrusion, that is archaic and should be done away with :banghead:  It's a gross a...
