Problems in present day Chinese society Corruption Corruption is still a huge problem in China, even though Xi Jinping said he would stop the practice. Re: Trip report: China 2017

Transportation Transportation both within cities and between cities was another thing that is so much easier nowadays in China. All the four cities I visited had metros and I only took buses two different times. In the old days unless you rushed and pushed and shoved among the other strap hangers, ...

Re: Trip report: China 2017

Food Western fast food outlets have found their way to China as well. McDonalds, KFC’s etc where common and they seemed to be in every place I visited. I guess I should have known this but somehow I had thought that China wouldn’t have let them in. Of course there were plenty of Chinese fast food r...

Re: Trip report: China 2017

Sounds I don’t know if other people remember well some sounds that they've heard during their trips or in their lives. I remember in 1987 when I studied in Guangzhou, the sounds of the trains’ whistles and the clatter of their wheels in the distance and also the voices of some night time food selle...

Re: Trip report: China 2017

I spent my last week in Shanghai, mainly spending time in school and at home. During my last day, I moved to a hotel closer to the Maglev station because I had an early flight. After check in I took a bus to see the Yangze-river as I had spent the whole time just south of it. It was near were the ri...

Wuxi My last weekend trip was the one I was looking forward the most. I have been a keen reader of old Chinese literature since the 80’s and less than an hour away from Shanghai was Wuxi, where they make movies of two old famous Chinese novels; The Romance of Three Kingdoms and Water Margin/Outlaws ...

Re: Trip report: China 2017

Suzhou and Tongli During my third week, there was a football match between Bayern Munchen and Arsenal. I had booked my ticket already when in Finland. This was quite expensive, more than 100€ but I just couldn’t let the occasion slip by, right? The match started 19.20 but it was still 36 C. The atm...

Hangzhou Hangzhou was also a place that I had visited during my first trip to China in 1986. As I entered the city, I could see the ugly, Soviet style tall buildings that seem to be the norm in China now. hang rumat rake.JPG Hangzhou is famous for its scenery, the main attraction being the West Lak...

About 24 hours left the join the competition. Don't forget the face-to-face league, you don't enter in automatically as you do in the main league.

Trip report: China 2017

I had a chance to spend the whole month of July and a couple of days of June in China, mainly Shanghai. I went to prep up my Chinese language and studied with a private teacher for four weeks, three hours every weekday. During three weekends I went to nearby cities to do some sight seeing. Here are ...
