Re: Good, reasonably priced wine

I think it was Floyd that said: If a wine is not good enough to drink then it is not good enough to cook with!

Re: Good, reasonably priced wine

I bought a bottle of 5 friends wine from the Macro today and have just tried it. Two sips were enough, the rest went down the sink. It is worse than Mon Clair and that is saying something! I still have a bad taste in my mouth!

Re: Dutch pedophile operating in Hua Hin gets 22 years

The Dutch Courts would have told him not to be a naughty boy and left it at that. Thank God the Thai police got him!

Re: Golf trip near to Thailand

There is a very nice golf course in no-mans land on the border with Malaysia just past Hat Yai (there is also a very nice course just outside Hat Yai). You can take a half hour taxi ride from the border to the ferry port and get a ferry to Langkawi (about 45 minutes). There are several beautiful gol...

Re: Subway

I don't think there are any more. I stopped going to the one in Bluport because I was deliberately short changed. I paid with a 1,000 Baht. I didn't trust the guy behind the counter so I counted my change as I walked away. I noticed that I was 100 Baht short. I turned around but before I could walk ...

Re: Advice : where to rent golf equipment and buy cheaper green fees ?

The Golf agencies normally do not offer cheaper green fees they will however provide free transport to and from the courses. You will normally only get a cheaper green fee if you play with a member or with one of the Hua Hin societies but then you will have to provide your own transport. Both the cl...

60 years on - A sad, sad day

Today, 60 years have passed since the Munich air disaster. I was a sad, sad day in my life. It became even sadder 2 weeks later when big Duncan died. The first match I attended at Old Trafford was the championship decider against Blackpool in 1953/54. Blackpool had all their stars playing (Stanley M...

Re: Best Hua Hin Steak 2017

Everyone has their own idea of what a good steak is. Americans tend to use a BBQ whilst Europeans will grill a steak in piping hot butter. I personally prefer the European style which you will get in most top Italian restaurants. Antonio & Carlo's in Hua Hin are both more than excellent.

Snake bites in Thailand - medical attention

I have followed the topic "Snakes in House & Garden" but I have a slightly different question. I read about many encounters with snakes in house, garden, etc. but I never hear about anyone actually being bitten by a snake. My questions are: 1) Does this happen very often? 2) If someone is bitten the...

Re: Pies in Hua Hin

I am well aware that a real MM pork pie has to made by a registered Melton Mowbray bakery. Many bakeries in England make pies that look and taste just like MM pies but do not have the MM stamp. I am more than happy eating these. I also enjoy other pork pies. I have never criticized the pies from HHH...

Re: Pies in Hua Hin

The pie shop in Soi 94 also has good pork pies (not MM) as well as a good selection of other pies, sausage rolls, scotch eggs, etc.

Melton Mowbray Pork Pies

During my youth I spent a couple of years living close to Melton Mowbray (Queniborough to be exact). During that time I became addicted to Melton Mowbray pork pies. They are now available all over England and there are also some very good copies. I have tried the pork pies from every pie shop in Hua...

Re: Potential Retirement Location - renting in Hua Hin

Khao Tao is a lot further south than Khao Takiab. The end of Khao Takiab (The Breeze condo, edge of Sea Pines golf course) is 8 km from City center. Khao Tao is much further and much, much quieter (as far as shops, restaurants, etc. are concerned).

Re: Potential Retirement Location - renting in Hua Hin

There are three main areas. North, South and West. North is the road to Bangkok. I've never lived there but I would imagine the facilities are minimal (there are no shopping malls but the beech is nice). There are a lot of nice condo's along the sea. West of Hua Hin you move into the mountains. Ther...
