Re: Dangers of renting a motorbike

Yes, MDMK, that is where we are. Good sleuthing. Visited Thaiitalia Pizza last night - just a short walk. It was good. Smidge light on the portions but very tasty and pretty good service from the single waiter. We'll go back. But it is not a 'fun' place hopping with people and lots of buzz. It was r...

Re: Top three nearby restaurants north of Cha-am

Nothing is too far by tuk tuk but I was hoping to stay within scooter range. Last night went to Thaiitalia and the food was good, service good, portions a bit stingy. I'd give it 3 out of 4. Hit up Happy-something the other day with Anna and the green curry was great! But neither place was a must-se...

Re: Top three nearby restaurants north of Cha-am

We are at the 'new village' about one km west of the Sheraton Hua Hin resort. Give or take a curved street or two.

Re: Top three nearby restaurants north of Cha-am

Yeah, that sounds about right. But, regardless of precisely where I am, are there any recommended restaurants around there? And please how, exactly, is one to 'call' a tuk tuk? Find one first and get his number?

Re: Top three nearby restaurants north of Cha-am

I don't think so....maybe...we are north of the airport. We are north of the Makro grocery store. Hua Hin is south of us. Nearest address I know is soi 6 where it meets Cana. That is south of us.

Top three nearby restaurants north of Cha-am

Living north of Cha am....a few kms north of the Makro store. Just off Cana rd. We have a scooter but have been advised to keep it local. So far, local is exciting enough. Any suggestions for good restaurants in the area just north of the Palm Hills golf course? If we go further afield (to Hau Hin w...

Re: Dangers of renting a motorbike

On a keeping-with-the-thread kinda tangent......we are staying at a Norwegian enclave north of where we ventured last night. A few miles north of Makro. I confess to being a smidge confused about where the hell Cha am is? Mind you my focus was mainly on the next vehicles most of the time. We drove d...

Re: Dangers of renting a motorbike

Thanks, guys. I am going to modify my approach because of your input AND because hunger got the better part of the argument last night and gave us a quick lesson on the local flow. We jumped on and 'gave it a shot'. From Ch to HH and back with a stop at the Makro. Like idiots, we left at dusk and re...

Dangers of renting a motorbike

Here a month. Gonna rent a scooter to get from Cha am to HH. I am 70. Wife 66. But I've driven in ChiangMai. Fared OK. Wife screamed a lot. Latest readings suggest that this plan is a poor one. But I hate being without a set of wheels. Waddaya all think? Probably one ride a day...off to dinner...tha...
