Re: Thailand tops global road death ranking

I remember the Cycling Proficiency Test at school. I was so proud of the badge I got for my bike. Attitudes are very different here.

Re: Thailand tops global road death ranking

The WHO is the usually accepted one. Libya is way way out in front and would take some catching even by Thailand. World Atlas doesn't include Libya. Anyone know why?

Re: Online Ordering - a sign of the times?

It's a free chat/video/call system similar to Messenger (facebook), Whatsapp and Skype plus a few others.
When I contacted Argos in the UK via their website, I was connected to them using Messenger.
Seems it's the way to go these days.

Re: Hua Hin is starting to look a lot like Christmas

I was out and about this evening and although the two shopping centres are well bedecked, I saw no sign of the town being decorated. Even Intercontinental was quite drab compared with other years. No lights on the flyover or anywhere else for that matter. Maybe it'll all happen in the next week or so.

Re: Knee Replacement

Out of curiosity, I looked up the price of knee replacement in the UK. It states the lowest as 8,750 with the highest at 15,410 with an average of 11,434.
BKK Hospital (according to a post above) is not far short of 10,000 quid. I'd have thought the difference would have been greater.

Re: Thai travelling to Thailand on UK passport

I'll make it four. My daughter, years ago entered without a passport at all and a friend's wife entered with an expired passport which she renewed before going back to the UK.

Re: What's Happened To The Water in Hua Hin?

Fortunately, with a 25,000 litre underwater tank,................... Yeah, those underwater tanks tend to stay full. :rasta: Not sure what you're getting at. A couple of years ago the water was off for several days. I hadn't noticed until the neighbours asked how I was managing. Checked the tank an...

Re: Direct from Grower leafy vegetables.

I've tried hydroponic grown vegetables and for me, apart from being expensive, much of the flavour is lost compared with conventionally grown produce. A good test is to try a tomato from each system. The tomato grown in soil is far more tasty then those grown in a hydroponics solution. Furthermore t...

Re: What's Happened To The Water in Hua Hin?

Fortunately, with a 25,000 litre underwater tank, I wouldn't notice a stoppage for several days. However, after reading the posts on here I checked this morning and the tank was full. I live in Hua Na.

Re: mobile/internet coverage Hua Hin

I think it came out of the government's Digital Strategy. I don't think it was a law but an encouragement for mobile companies to share masts. AIS and DTAC have since got into bed together (along with CAT I believe) to share masts. I guess other operators will follow suit as it's beneficial to the c...

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

As usual it's another 'stab in the dark'. The only sensible statement in that report is: "Education is the missing key because we must create a culture of safety and awareness among youth" and it's not just theory and silly videos at the transport offices, but real training. A licence should only be...
