Re: Dangers of renting a motorbike

Can you not work your evening around getting the train into HH which is about B10 and is around 6pm then a taxi ( cheaper than Tuk tuck) home later?

Re: Bintabaat shut down at 12.15 by masked police!

There were one or two idiot young Thais driving too fast on bikes without number plates down Soi 80, but on the whole was a quiet night. We left about 12.30, traffic was very light.

Re: Travel insurance - check the small print..

Thanks for that, I was wondering what to when I finally retire. Either keep a place in the U.K. or a hotter European country as a bolt hole if I had major health problems

Re: Travel insurance - check the small print..

I guess that’s the difference between travel insurance and medical/health insurance. Now in the U.K, if you have been an ex pat you have to be beck for 6 months before you can access the NHS. But as waiting lists are now so long there, I guess it doesn’t matter.

If you believe there is any joined up thinking going on (TIT!) you could think they are pushing the girlie bars out to other areas and making Binta more family friendly. But joined up thinking and Thais is not usually put in the same sentence!

Perhaps they thought they could make better choices!

Did you go with their recommendations?

It’s the inconsistency that leads to conspiracy theories.
Out of town bars told to close between 2-5pm.
I was told last night that all the bars on Soi 80 have been given the OK to stay open ALL-NIGHT on New year!

Re: Buying Alcohol Restrictions

While I agree with the sentiment, closing local bars with only a couple of customers who have traveled a short distance and leaving the city centre bars open doesn’t make much sense. This is targeting the wrong people again. It’s the guys traveling to Isaan with a case of beer in the car that are th...

Re: Buying Alcohol Restrictions

Yesterday the bars in Mon Mai area had to stop serving between 2 and 5pm! B10,000 fine and/ or 6 month prison if caught. The notice on the wall said it was to stop accidents due to drink driving!
So I had to drive all the way to Binta to get a beer!!! TIT

Re: Opening a bank account which bank?

Work permits or ‘retirement visa’ seem to be what they are looking for now.

Re: Opening a bank account which bank?

Thanks, we are going to try going with a friend who is a property agent and has a history of being able to ‘fix’ this for his customers....I’ll let you know how we get on.

Re: Opening a bank account which bank?

Just been round 3 banks to try and get an account for a friend and it seems you now need a 1 yr Visa ( not a tourist visa) to open one! As he is looking to buy here there is a bit of a catch 22 situation where you can’t open a bank account until you live here. But you can’t move the money to buy int...

Re: Nescafe

I use a a Philips Senseo, which is going out of fashion a bit in the U.K., but this means the pouches are very cheap. I brought a converter to use ‘real’ ground coffee so as long as it keeps going shouldn’t become obsolete as many of these things do. I’m sorry but I don’t drink instant, god knows ho...

Would Sprayfoam roof insulation solve the problem (I’m not a builder)?
