Re: The Beer Thread

I'd have to do a more scientific test than I've done so far. I'm an Asahi fan as it's the best tasting beer I can get where I am that is usually under a 1 month bottle date. However, this applies to their cans only so I like the cans best. Where I am there are hordes of Japanese and Korean engineer ...

Re: The Beer Thread

It's normal for shops to move their older stock to the front of the shelves or cooler. I avoid any beer older than 3 months from bottling date. Absolutely ( to me) older than that has a very stale taste but it's never been so bad as to make me ill. Bouncing truck transport and heat here play hell wi...

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

My understanding is that Chinese tourists don't like Hua Hin too much. Those graphs and statistics reflect the huge increase in Chinese tourists but you're not seeing it there. Other places continue to be full and it doesn't seem there is a "low season" here for them. Pete

Re: Good Barber / Hairdresser

A good thing to do is take a photo of your haircut right after you get a good one that you like. All sides if possible. Keep it on your cell phone and show it to the barber each time you go in for a cut. Pete

Thailand Floods of 2018

Presumptuous on my part once again perhaps. Seeing that the hot season was unusually wet is perhaps a sign of a lighter monsoon ahead, or an ominous sign. We shall see. Pete

Re: Minivan, bus and road accidents

They seem to conveniently never state if these busses and vans that are catching on fire are liquid gas conversions. Should be a reporter "must ask" question when covering these events. I have no faith in the safety of that type of fuel system here regardless of who does the conversion. Pete

Re: Good Barber / Hairdresser

Finding a good barber anywhere in Thailand is like finding gold. Hang on to them! The problem often is that you go back to the shop at a point in time and they have left for greener pastures. :banghead: Pete

Re: Govt crackdown on Airbnb, declares bookings illegal

It seems to me a quick, legal solution would be to make each rental period for 30 days regardless of the length of stay, and prorate the fee based upon the actual days stayed. It would limit occupancy to 12 contracts per year, but perhaps that's normal for many places? If selective a place may be ab...
