Re: A new little royal.

Well, VS, much as I love you, and much as I'm no republican, I can honestly say this makes me just as happy as the recent birth of my neighbour's daughter. Of course she won't have the same privileges as the Royal Baby!

EDIT: I vote for Kevin.

Re: Vietnam Visa

As usual some ridiculous questions. You can ask an advise, a travel experience to forum members but for that kind of information nothing better than Google or the VN official visa site. Who was recently in VN ? My question is not answered on Google. Is it easy to change TH Bhat, or better take only...

Re: Pivotal moments in life.

Interesting thread, VS. Most of these pivotal moments were good - I may have left out some of the bad ones! The first pivotal moment was nothing to do with me, really, but it was the school I went to when I was 11. The next was spending my gap year in Bordeaux in '76. Then when that was over I decid...

Re: Niece in UK wants to be expat - finding work in Thailand

I have to say if I were young, Thailand would be a long way from top of my list of teaching locations (knowing what I know now, of course!). China? Maybe. Middle East if you want to make some money. Central/South America or somewhere like Honduras would be where I'd start.

Re: Niece in UK wants to be expat - finding work in Thailand

I'd advise her to do a TEFL or TESOL course in the UK. Once she has one of those under her belt she could teach English almost anywhere she fancies, either short-term or long-term.

Re: Back in the UK after 14 years

Has spring sprung in England, DM? Are the daffodils nodding to you on your stroll to the shop/pub? Do you have swallows nesting in the eaves, and have you heard a cuckoo yet? I believe so, though I still have the heating on. 10-12 C isn't quite enough for me to feel comfortable... Daffodils everywh...

Re: News of the Weird - this just in!

Back to the 78 year old man in the UK who had initially been held on the possibility of being charged with murder, common sense has prevailed and the police have dropped the charges they say following a thorough investigation, no doubt prompted by the huge public outcry - more here http://www.bbc.c...

One of the good things about living on your own is that nobody complains when you leave the toilet seat up.
One of the sad things is that you constantly find yourself putting it down...

Re: Demise of AWOL magazine

It was a magazine specially for Brits. About news ! 555, ridiculous, some lines on first page. I really don't regret, wish a real magazine like in Pattaya and Phuket with real local news. But who have the guts in this shithole ? Interesting comments, instead of being positive to make things better,...

Re: Living in Phuket ?

"Authentic" is great for a few days, but it soon starts to pall unless you are a good croucher and never get tired of the heat, mossies, Thai food, rotgut and gut rot. I like my creature comforts within easy reach! Settle for a happy medium like Pranburi, Prachuap or Bang Saphan.
