RIP Joyce Naulls

I am very sad to have to let HH expats - and her many Thai friends - know that Joyce passed away on 10th February back in Hull.
Many of us have happy memories of nights in Paradise, JW's, Jailhouse etc playing darts, her karaoke skills, and those meat pies and pasties.
Rest in peace Joyce x

Re: Opinion: Why Do Some Thais Support China Over Hong Kong Protests?

China has the money. A simple understanding for Thais. Those with money matter - hence white falangs are becoming less and less important to them. Maybe we should be asking ourselves if us 'white falangs' were ever really important to Thailand at all? Let's face it, white farang were welcomed in th...

Re: Very boring car designs!

Compare this to the likes of the Porsche 911, introduced in the early 1960's and the design has not changed significantly in 50+ years (although technology obviously has). I won't mention the AC Cobra, the E-Type Jag etc. Out of interest: - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/luxury/motoring/the-ver...

Re: Thai cuisine 'under threat' from foreign influences

I can see where they're coming from with this. Similar fears to those voiced in Britain when the EU wanted to tell us how to make chocolate, and the campaigns to stop things like Lincolnshire sausages being made in other counties and sold as Lincolnshire. But the 'watering down' of authentic recipes...

Re: UK Retirees to face cuts in Pensions

nowadays there are so many things that you have to declare to various institutes Such as? It's hard to identify occasions when you would need to physically present yourself, aside from jury service - but even then they will cancel a jury summons now for the slightest reason - the court service does...

Agreed - but you can carry on using a washing machine, car etc long after new upgraded models have been introduced without impacting on your ability to communicate with the rest of the world.

Re: What is 5G and what impact will it have?

I've just had to upgrade my wifi to a 4G tariff in the UK. The wifi router was using an out of date 3G sim and had slowed almost to a stop. It took an awful lot of fault reports to my provider that got nowhere until they realised my 3G tariff had become defunct, but I hadn't been notified that I nee...

Re: STUDY: Women Don’t Want to Date Vegetarian Men

It never fails to amaze me how many odd surveys there are. That said the results of this one seems to make sense if you go back to the caveman hunter provider thing. How many women back then would have fancied a guy who brought back a load of veggies? And apart from that vegetarians probably break m...

Re: Pros and Cons of Colonization

I sort of have mixed feelings about this. To be honest, if I really think about it seriously, then I have to admit, at least to myself, that I probably wouldn't be here today if Thailand was like Malaysia or Singapore. In fact, I am almost 100% certain. When I first came to Thailand in 1997, I fell...

Re: Demise of AWOL magazine

It was a magazine specially for Brits. About news ! 555, ridiculous, some lines on first page. I really don't regret, wish a real magazine like in Pattaya and Phuket with real local news. But who have the guts in this shithole ? When in Pattaya I loved the Pattaya Mail. Not sure if it still enjoys ...

MiB now wearing masks across their faces due to tourists taking photos of them. Expect more of this cos the latest MiB big-boss is seemingly very strict.. Aaaah diddums -- the MIB usually love having their pics taken. Especially while pointing at perps/evidence and the like. Maybe it would gi...

Re: Cookin Corner

I happened to catch a portion of Jamie Olivers Christmas show where he was cooking outside. He did a sprout recipe inclusive of shredding the sprouts, cooking chopped bacon, olive oil, fresh rosemary, worcestershire, a little water, put the whole lot together in the fry pan and stir-fried. Looked g...

Re: Cookin Corner

This Christmas I finally got round to trying sauteed sprouts with bacon. (I know - but I'm a bit of a sprout purist.) Anyway as a first timer I used a packet mix by Schwartz. The instructions said about 450 gm of sprouts plus the bacon bits, and then 50 ml of water with the packet mix. That clearly ...
