Re: The scourge of Facebook

Well, the locals are some of the biggest believers in Farcebook...so the chief of social brainwashing is coming to meet the dictator. There will be a closet deal on something mutually beneficial despite the denials. What possibly could they have to talk about other than increasing business/access et...

As an aside, if I ever do something wrong here, it'll be interesting to see how far a wai and 500 baht get me

Re: Smoking ban on Hua Hin and Thai beaches, jail time for offenders

This silly law will only be enforced against foreigners/tourists...bet they wouldn't dare pull a Thai in for it for a whole load of reasons. Funny how that angry young Thai guy got away with a wai and 500 baht fine for jumping up and down on a car's roof in the middle of the highway whilst having a ...

Re: Cambodia clamps down on expat visas

Westerners are becoming less welcome in Asia in general and it's getting to the point where you are mostly only given a brief tourist visa in many places now so they can fleece you and then send you on your way. They have China to turn to now for what they need and almost all of these countries (wit...

Re: Thai junta sets firm date for election

Doesn't matter if they hold some sham of an election to attempt to gain a fig leaf of cover, it will result in a weak and spineless coalition government with 250 appointed rubber stamp "Yes" senators and the generals will still be in charge. However, as mentioned by others above, there is little bel...

Re: Smoking ban on Hua Hin and Thai beaches, jail time for offenders

Singling out smokers whiffs of the Thai killjoy brigade, like the holier-than-thou anti-alcohol lobby finger wagers, that get their way often. Why aren't they just enforcing a much stricter littering law policy in general? And it should also be coupled with a high profile educational "Keep Thailand ...

Re: Embarrassing Farangs

Thing is, Thailand attracts a lot of douchebags due to the lax law enforcement, corruption, nightlife, easily available beautiful woman, cheap beer etc. etc. etc. and most believe that they can "pull their shit" here and get away with it whereas they would be called-out on it if they did it where th...

Locking Old Threads (Viewing Only)

I'm pretty sure it's been brought up before but is still a no-no by the look of it. Does admin/mods or anyone else have any input on this. Personally, after a certain amount of time with no postings (time length at the discretion of admin) then a topic should become one of viewing status only unless...

Try this site. Should sort you out. Just alter the money search parameters in the top row for currency, how much and whether cash or whatever.

Re: Cars with dashcams get 5-10% discount

My insurance is up for my truck at the end of October, so shall visit the insurer (Tokyo Marine) in a couple weeks. I will obviously raise this point with them and report back to this thread with their final decision. Seems though, that the insurers are not 'over the moon' about this directive...des...

Re: GBP vs THB

If it's a hard Brexit, then it will take 5 years after the exit before the pound gets back to a decent realistic level....in other words once the important trade deals have been made. A reasonable deal with the Borg collective in Brussels will speed that up though.

Yes Pete...probably so. If that Nation report is correct, then maybe 10 baht increase on a beer in a bar and maybe a 3-5 baht increase in shops.

Re: Govt to increase alcohol tax again

Looks like some tax ministry official has come out and said something finally. Hopefully not as bad as thought, maybe they did a quick rethink at the last minute. http://www.nationmultimedia.com/detail/breakingnews/30326861 Still a few questions though to be clarified which I'm sure will happen soon...

Re: GBP vs THB

Going to need a bit of a pound recovery with all these tax grabs and the moronic government decision making resulting in life in Thailand becoming silly expensive and difficult. As if it wasn't restrictive enough already. Very different place to what convinced me to stay when I got here. If not for ...
