Mmmmm. Interesting read. When we first bought the property fourteen years ago, my wife couldn't own property either. So it was put in the name of her sister. That law changed not too long ago, so she had it transferred to her name recently. Our feeling is that we don't want it for ourselves, you can...

Britwoman To answer both your questions - I'm 49, my wife's 44, we've been together (and in Thailand) for sixteen years. She's an ex-air traffic controller. I can't really think of any other place to be, we're bringing the kids up here, the eldest is already halfway through secondary school. My main...

Unfortunately there are a lot of strays and nothing is really done to neuter them, so they just keep breeding. The Thai attitude is, that's their karma, leave them be. They won't interfere unless the dogs interfere. Like the way they try to avoid a snake crossing the road (sometimes causing damage t...

Buying new or used? There's definitely more variety in Bangkok, if you want to look at the used car market. I assume you're not looking at pickup trucks. Used Japanese cars are more expensive, but they do have a decent dealership network and spares are not too difficult. Try to get a car that has a ...

The locals have very little concern for what we would consider safe driving habits. Like the guy the other day (in Bangkok traffic!) with his 4-year old son sitting in his lap and helping his father STEER the car! In the days before seatbelts became mandatory, I had a difficult time trying to get my...

Definitely lifestyle. It's a great place to bring the wife, kids and extended family down for a long weekend. Proximity to Bangkok and an accessible beach are other factors.
Don't forget the added attraction of the Jazz festival. It can only get better... :)

Have been residing in LOS since 1988, based in Bangers. The first year here was mainly shuttling between Bangkok and Chiangmai. Found HH sometime around 1990, as my wife is connected to aviation and had many friends at the airport. We still make it up twice to three times a year with the kids and ex...

Do I detect a hint of cynism there Mr Buksida ? Hahahahaha  ! Couldn't help that. The girls do get around, one that I knew two years ago is now doing the rounds in Singapore  , according to her friends. Another that fancied my brother (nice girl, though - I've known her for ages as s...

Haha... The wife is always complaining that she needs the exercise, but will wait ten minutes AND pay the motorsai seven baht for the 200 meter walk to the end of my soi instead of walking. Go figure. She used to be a good badminton player, just that work and family caught up with both of us over th...

Wow! I didn't know those things went that fast! My uncle used to have a Lambretta when I was a kid, I used to love sitting in the second seat behind him. I'm aware of the speed limits; it's 90 kmh on typical two-way traffic roads, but on the divided highways you are now allowed to do 120, up from 11...

Any unnecessary loss of life is sad indeed. But you cannot put the blame squarely on the police; the level of vehicle maintenance leaves a lot to be desired, as I have almost run down some motorcyclist who was riding without lights on the wrong side and almost in the middle of a major provincial (bu...

Hello John Not to dampen your spirits, but the better-looking ones with language skills and working at a fairly 'plush' hotel are probably looking out to better their own situation. Not everyone wants to fork out for a really plush hotel, so she may just be narrowing down the list of future prospect...
