Re: Can I divert my thai mobile number to uk mobile?

Roaming and data charges these days are astronomical. Just get a local SIM (doesn't matter single or double, just don't use the Thai one. The second SIM slot does tend to slow the phone down at times). Make sure you have a data package for the duration of your trip and use social media apps (I use W...

Re: Thai Airways to undertake maintenance of Rolls-Royce engines

GE have had a large facility on the Eastern seaboard for many years for engine parts overhaul. I used to work for another company not too far from Donmuang where we did refurb work on aero-engine parts. A lot of the business came from Thai, mainly for the GE engines which at the time was their mains...

Re: IHERB delivery

Slightly off topic, as this has to do with delivery in general.. My son ordered a vinyl record from the UK, normally takes about two weeks. The thing arrived day before yesterday, after a wait of 3 months . The post office dropped off a ' please pick up parcel at Post Office ' notice, stating there ...

Re: Affordable Health Insurance For Expats

Agree with BB on the cost and effectiveness of BH, and don't patronize them any more. I was prescribed designer meds for a normal condition that totally wiped out my insurance limits so had to pay over and above. A couple of days later went to Mayo Hospital in Bangkok and got it sorted for less than...

Re: Government water and electricity rates.

About 4.5 to 5 baht per unit electricity; calculation depends on amount used, tariffs etc but this is about a standard residential user. Water has a base charge of 50 baht and then 10 baht per unit and goes up the more you use. If more than 50 units you will be considered an industrial user and ther...

Due to an unforeseen logistics error I have been shunted off to the CB hotel for a night. Will go for a walk around Binta Block in a bit.

Anyone around for a coffee this evening?

Wife has a seminar at Hua Hin, will be joining her for a night or two. Expect to be in town this evening, probably staying at the Melia or thereabouts. Hope to put names to faces..

Cheers

Re: รอยุพอดี

Everyday Thai can be confusing if not heard often, and our 'thaan chart' ears do not always pick up the correct phrase or nuance. ('Thaan chart' is a nicer way of saying 'farang') In the case of the security guard, 'Ror yoo por dee', the 'ror yoo' would imply he was waiting for you, and 'por dee' li...

Re: GPS for Honda CRV

If car did not come with built-in gps, and you have a built-in touchscreen /bluetooth entertainment system, you may be able to pair the gps on your mobile phone to display on the screen. I tried this on my son's Juke and it's bl**dy contrived so won't advise that. I just use the gps on my mobile pho...

Re: LG TV remote?

Before throwing away the old remote, make sure it is really broken. Put in a fresh set of batteries, then point it at your phone camera. If it still functioning, you should be able to see the infrared led on the remote flashing.

Architect '18 Expo at Muang Thong (Bangkok)

Didn't know where to put this as it is in Bangkok, but this is for those guys who find it impossible to get that elusive product at HomePro, Boonthavorn and similar.. Just spent an afternoon browsing at the Expo, it's from 1st to the 6th of May. Went with the intention of browsing for solar and home...

Re: Which car would you feel safest in Thailand

Yes, it is a nice car. But with all the automated safety kit installed, there is a lot more to go wrong. And when it does, perhaps without warning, there is a higher possibility of an accident waiting to happen. Complacency and dependence on automated systems should not be the norm. The best safety ...

I do, however, notice more awareness of emergency vehicles in Bangkok and people do try to give way even in bumper to bumper traffic.

Wonder where they might learn what to do? Here's a thought, Formal Driving School taught in ALL public schools at age 15. A bit late as the kids are already driving their parents' motorbike to school by the time they're 11.. Bad habits already ingrained from the time they are pillion at age 3.. Wit...
