Re: Land boundary markers

My take on it. (Based on the wife getting the family plot surveyed late last year). 1. Get the Land Office to do it. Officially. They will have a queue. Just wait your turn. 2. A land surveyor doing it on his day off is not official. Even though he may work there. 3. As per 2., a land surveyor using...

Re: Thai law on property rights and marriage

i had a copy of the regs back then, purchased from a lawyer's office in Silom. Think I lost it in the last great flood of 2011. Baically, Sin sod - dowry Sin son tua - personal property before marriage. This is yours, and needs to be declared before you tie the knot. It remains so after marriage and...

Re: New to the Forum

You'll read a lot of gripes on the forum from members, I'm sure you know that's what expat forums are like, take most with a pinch of salt. :) 404CJ, Not all are gripes.. Thing is, human nature is such that the good things seldom find their way into the public arena.. Will have been here as PR 30 y...

Re: NHS treatment back in the UK if resident in HH?

My appendix decided to burst when we were visiting... I don't think I'd be here now if I had had to go to a government hospital here. VS On a slight tangent here, but healthcare nonetheless. The government hospitals here can be a bit hit or miss, but you do get good and timely medical treatment. Ta...

Re: Possible land purchase 2.5km outside HH centre. Planning to build houses. Advice please.

OBR My younger brother tried what you are proposing to do, also around the same age group and still single. It didn't work out. If you're not retired, and can't show an income source locally (rent from abroad doesn't count) you're under the radar and will eventually end up in the authorities' sights...

Re: Hello all. Newbie in Manchester.

Hi Bobby Some advice.. From someone who's been here around thirty years. Don't take it to heart, but rather with a large pinch of salt.. 1. Don't burn bridges. Keep your property, don't sell up. Not at your age. 2. Enjoy the GFE while it lasts. (girl friend experience) 3. As another poster advised, ...

BTW, Mamod is the brand name of an old steam-powered toy so it's not oversize.. Always wanted one but they were expensive back then. Remember my neighbour had one, fascinating to watch..

Re: Chrome plating

Good Sunday morning. A few comments, if I may... I used to work at a facility where we did aviation standard nickel plating on aero engine parts, the biggest obstacle to getting a good job done was always the part preparation. Extremely strong acids were used on superalloys to remove all traces of o...

Re: Build an LED blinker circuit for my motorcycle

Interesting as a project but in practice would advise getting a commercially available one, they are typically designed to directly replace whatever was there in the first place and be compliant with the law. There are certain shades of amber and red suitable for traffic; not all would comply. Also ...

Re: Diesel particulate filters

Yes, have seen the articles and some videos on DPF death and that the prevention really is to thrash them once a week or so to get it up to operating temperature and do it's job. Never have been much of a diesel fan, but some of the more recent turbodiesel offerings are actually quite nippy. Was als...

Re: Chrome plating

Lots of rather strong and nasty chemicals involved. Just go to the places that do plating, not worth the investment (and more so the environmental disposal aspects of waste materials that go with it). Most of these plating places do small job lots..

Re: Need to know things about thai GF

Sigh. Doesn't have to be Thai; she could jolly well be an Amazonian or even Zulu. It's the relationship you've got with her. Deal with it.

If it's a problem with the language, learn it. Works wonders. I see someone dug up an older (7 years old) thread on that topic..

Re: Where to buy 12 Volt Garden Lights in Thailand

Go to an auto accessories shop. I have used strip LED lighting (12V) for many projects. Most of these strip lights are already weatherproof and you can cut and join but may need some basic soldering skills. I, like you, do not like some of the stuff the locals do (like those 220V christmas tree ligh...

Re: Authorities set to charge for car parking on public roads

Certain parts of Lopburi do have municipal parking controls, and they've been there for almost twenty years. Certain parts of Sa-kaeow circle and also around the market area. Cars are charged 2 baht, no time limit, and the parking ticket is usually placed under the windscreen wipers. No charge durin...
