Re: Weakspot in Thai house design, concrete flange above lower roof tiles

Look for rat trails - typically around a water pipe, you'll see a grey area to the left and right the whole length of it. I used this technique to block off access in my old company premises as the exterminator service just sent a couple of blokes once a week and all they did was set rat traps and s...

Re: Direct from Grower leafy vegetables.

Hydroponic veggies are typically cheaper than that from the supermarkets. Remember buying a whole sack of lettuce for next to nothing in Kanchanaburi.
Have also tried my hand at home hydroponics, they mature at around the same time, so first you wait, then there's too much produce..

Re: Hua Hin is starting to look a lot like Christmas

For a country that does not celebrate Christmas, I see the displays as a means of generating more foot traffic (and therein more sales revenue) for that particular venue. It starts too early in the year as well, with some places having the decorations up mid-November. For me, the spirit of Christmas...

Re: Gasohol 91 and gasohol 95 to be phased out

Gasohol is subsidised anyway, and it's the poorer people who will suffer. I've seen this upcountry where they sell stuff in a coke bottle, some can only afford 20 baht a time. Bring back pushbikes, I say.

Re: Govt set to charge foreign drivers for using Thai roads

Singapore has been doing this for years for all Malaysian vehicles passing through. Includes motorcycles. Talked to a Malaysian building contractor last time I was back in Singapore, he is charged SGD 50 per day, and he drives into and out of Singapore every day. He said it is cheaper to do that tha...

Re: Poor choice of dashcams on Lazada!

Nereus, the spec sheet of your dashcam indicates that you can play back the recorded video on the dashcam itself. One hopes you would not have to. My last accident, before the days of dashcams, I used to keep a disposable camera in the glove compartment. I ever I was involved in any accident, I woul...

Re: CR2025 car keyfob batteries

My car is so old that I still have a key to both unlock the car, as well as start it, should the battery in the remote give up the ghost. On a side note, both my wife and my son have these 'keyless entry' remotes (that actually have a 'hidden' key in the remote itself). But.. Should the battery actu...

Re: Poor choice of dashcams on Lazada!

Yes, I've been PR in Thailand since 1988. I started using radar detectors back in 1993, they do have radar and laser traps around, and I used to drive extensively so found it was a necessity then. I don't drive as much now, so it's more a habit than anything. It's to save the hassle of being pulled ...

Re: Poor choice of dashcams on Lazada!

Thanks, this morning I got off the pot and ordered the DDPai M6 Plus from Amazon... Amazing how some actions tend to clear your mind and goad you into action.. :lach: Good buy, good price. Enjoy when it comes. Don't forget a seperate battery pack so you will be able to use the time-lapse recording....

Re: Poor choice of dashcams on Lazada!

BB the dashcam video is a bit 'choppy' and the angle of view not as wide as the gopro, but acceptable quality. As I said, I would not have changed my dashcam if not for the fact that it wasn't keeping the date and time properly. Have since taken it apart and replaced the internal battery with a spar...

Re: Poor choice of dashcams on Lazada!

Okay been looking through some recorded footage, both night and day. As expected, at night there is inherent movement blurring with tail lights and as such, number plates. This is the nature of the beast when using WDR, so you get a composite overall brightness that sacrifices clarity of the shot. D...

BB.. Re antics on a public highway.. I don't like it, and don't condone it. There is a fine line drawn between youthful exuberance and just plain bad behaviour.

Re: Poor choice of dashcams on Lazada!

BB, don't forget that signboards are typically fixed, and quite large so should be legible. number plates are on another (moving) vehicle, so there is inherent blurring. This is also where a good aperture on the camera is important, as is the recording speed AND your SD card capability. You will nee...
