Re: Authorities set to charge for car parking on public roads

Certain parts of Lopburi do have municipal parking controls, and they've been there for almost twenty years. Certain parts of Sa-kaeow circle and also around the market area. Cars are charged 2 baht, no time limit, and the parking ticket is usually placed under the windscreen wipers. No charge durin...

Re: Road Signs in Hua Hin (and maybe elsewhere)

Jumps in... BB, the locals seem to have a propensity to totally ignore authority and tend to thumb their noses up at said authority, official or not. Take the helmet law, for example. I won't be surprised to find a 'No Entry' sign on the road opposite, probably indicating a one-way clockwise flow. H...

Re: Indian spices

Tend to agree with Takiap on the size of the packets from Makro. But that is their business model, and it does keep the prices at a reasonable level. As for me, being in Bangkok helps. I just go to Pahurat (Little India, right next to Chiantown) where you will be in Indian spice heaven. Treat yourse...

Re: Another San Paulo story

BB While a little off topic (as this in not in HH but in Bangkok) I have avoided using Bangkok Hospital as it is run more as a business model than as a hospital. Being prescribed a very strong intravenous antibiotic for something that was nothing more than a stomach upset was the final straw. I did ...

Re: OBD2 FAULT/CODE READER

Hopefully your fault is simply a low battery thing, fault codes can be generated on the more modern cars by supplying undervoltage to the computer. Try disconnecting the battery for a couple of hours, it should clear the non-volatile memory (at least it worked with the Saab - though you did lose all...

Re: OBD2 FAULT/CODE READER

Hi. There is usually a workaround when it comes to reading engine codes. I'm just assuming here that the 'restricted performance' message is similar to a 'check engine' message (or icon) on some cars, and that it does not actually throttle back to performance (unless in limp-home mode)? As an aside,...

Re: Help with garden lawn and making lawn sprinkler installation

Nereus, the only place I remember in Bangkok close to your description was KU Garden, a fairly large self-contained shop, a fair walk past the Or Tor Gor market and on the opposite side. It's been gone for years since the railway took back the land, don't know if they closed or relocated. Was the on...

Re: Help with garden lawn and making lawn sprinkler installation

How big is the garden? I've used a cheap water timer from HomePro, less than 2,000 baht, runs on AA batteries. Got a roll of 1/2" PEX from the same place, a bunch of 180 degree spray heads, a couple of angle and straight connectors and the requisite hole punch to fit the heads. Took two afternoons, ...

Re: New Year's Vehicle Accidents - 2018

They don't turn on their lights because: 1. The bulb that comes with the vehicle lasts forever - no need to check. Ditto brake light. 2. Things are put in the basket in front of the motorsai, obscuring the headlight. The driver doesn't notice, as it either shines in his face, so he knows it's on, or...

Re: Traffic Light Camera???

Probably just setting up focus and camera angle.. The BIB don't like to be out in the hot sun or any other inclement weather, those airconditioned booths they have on the corner of the traffic lights are probably about as close as they want to be to the action.

Re: Traffic Light Camera???

These types of camera typically have a sensor coil imbedded in the road, about two to three inches deep. If you look carefully you can see where they would have gouged a trench and then backfilled over it, about the size of a car. It only triggers the camera if you run a red light. So if you don't r...

Re: Pros & Cons of Kite Surfing

A personal opinion from a personal experience... Years ago, when the kids were much younger,we got a nice beachfront hotel in Pattaya. This was way back when things were quite haphazard and not regulated. We had set up a mat about ten meters up from the waves and were moving around when a jetski, dr...
