Re: Weather in Hua Hin & Thailand

Well there has certainly been some fairly persistent rain most of the day and more forecast for the rest of the night/early morning - looking like I will have to drain some water from the swimming pool soon!!

Re: House market in Hua Hin

Hello, I'm new to the forum, I am considering buying a house in Hua Hin and find quite an amount houses on the market, I am interested in knowing if the market is going well or if there is a pressure on the prices due to overstock. It is not for a short term investment but would be interesetd to ha...

Re: Indian restaurants in Hua Hin

That Shiva looks lovely, have added it to my to-do list. Thanks! When I have been there, they ask you what strength you want your curry using %age, so 100% would be “call the fire brigade my throats on fire” to 50-60% would be more like a Madras and 80% a Vindaloo - not sure what a korma would be? ...

I agree withBB, the only thing against Shiva is it is out of town so you need transport or a taxi, but food and setting is at the top.

Re: Tax Residency

A Singapore bank recently asked where I was resident for tax purposes, when opening a second account. As my main account was at another local branch and I was a long term customer, I bluffed my way out of the question. Looks like this was new requirement for new customers. A few years ago, I worked...

Re: Legality of email correspondence

Dannie, I know off topic about email, but did you sign a contract with the property agent, if not I doubt anything could be enforced as they are doing it at their own risk. Verbal agreements may be enforceable in some jurisdictions but do you really think the agent will go to the substantial cost o...

Re: Tax Residency

Thanks for the replies. In the end I decided to call HSBC as I also had a query from their “Safeguard” team. Turns out that I had completed the tax residency form incorrectly, but they dealt with the issue over the phone.........hopefully. The other issue they say is for my protection, I suspect it ...

Tax Residency (bank requirements)

I don’t know if anybody else has received the same as I have, as explained below. About 2 months ago I received correspondence from my UK bank (HSBC) asking me to complete a form declaring my tax residency - claiming this was part of a global reporting requirements known as the Common Reporting Stan...

Re: Tips for recycling and reducing plastic use in Thailand

Like Pete I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s and in the UK everything you bought was put into paper bags. Now everything comes pre packaged in plastic and cardboard or steyrene containers and then put into plastic bags. So often you buy something that may be just a few inches/cms in size but comes in pa...

Re: Legality of email correspondence

Just a question, is it not normal for the seller to have the contract drawn up not the buyer? My legal fees for land search and contract drafting was Baht 113,118 including a Usufruct I’m not sure what is “normal” as it’s the first time I’ve been involved in selling a house in Thailand but the figu...

Re: Legality of email correspondence

The Agent has threatened me with legal action saying that the buyer has paid something like 350,000 Baht to the lawyers for there services in drawing up the legal contract. This seems like a lot to me but I don’t know what the going rate is? The ETA referred to by HHTel sounds a bit worrying and not...
