Re: Chinese tourists (and their habits) surge into Thailand

Tourism accounts for around 12% of the economy and is easily the fastest-growing sector, particularly since a coup in 2014. This sentence confuses me... Are they trying to say that having a coup has somehow increased the amount of money tourism is bringing? Or is it suggesting that growth in other ...

Re: Dates when no alcohol sold in Hua Hin

There will always be scare/rumour/wind-up mongers (many will be very convincing). The only way is to wait for the official announcement. It would help things along quite nicely if the official announcement would come with more than about 12 hours notice. Everybody that I spoke to about the issue, b...

The call centre would probably give a definitive answer.
That sounds extremely optimistic! :)

Re: The Beer Thread

I'd imagine people are "panic buying" because of the uncertainty of supply over the next couple of weeks. I did my own spot of stocking up last night and there were three other couples also getting their supplies in. It was about 8pm and the beer fridge was half empty; I don't know if this was becau...

Re: Hua Hin. Daily Photo

I wasn't aware of the differences between JPEG and PDF images. From what I have been able to ascertain from my first attempted research is that PDF format requires less storage space and the ability to get a reasonable quality print, even if it is taken from a web site. My question is, by convertin...

Re: Thai ex-PM fails to show for verdict

I was in the UK when her big brother fled over here. Nobody in the media cared; why would they? So was I. I'd suggest you do a google search to find out which UK papers didn't cover it and pretty much every UK paper or media outlet covered Yingluck fleeing as well. There's a big difference between ...

Re: Thai ex-PM fails to show for verdict

I wonder if she is in the UK? I would have thought the UK media would have been all over this, if she was. It took them a nano-second to track down the Red Bull kid that murdered a police officer. I was in the UK when her big brother fled over here. Nobody in the media cared; why would they? Thai p...

Re: Locking Old Threads (Viewing Only)

I just did a quick search and it seems like there isn't an extension to this forums software to achieve this, despite a few people requesting it, which I found surprising. So it would either require manual intervention from forum admin staff, or investing in custom coding.

Re: Back in the UK after 14 years

2. Have you managed to open a bank account? The writer of the same thing I read said they couldn't open a bank account because of the same reason. We don't currently have a UK bank account (just Thai and off-shore). I know hindsight is a wonderful thing; but presumably you previously had bank accou...

Re: What Nationality Are You

Jamjar has given us a few laughs but it's getting b o r i n g I do like the new nickname, Pleng. Jamjar!! Oh I sorry but I can't take credit for that. I don't pay much attention to nicknames on the Fourm... I was replying to StevePIraq above me, who had used the name JamJar to refer to our new frie...

You must have to be a serious kind of nut job to be willing to walk through customs with suitcases to which you have no idea of the contents!

Re: Revolutionary Road Crossing for Hua Hin

Firstly I feel the word "revolutionary" is thrown around far too easily these days. Secondly, I worry that anything that makes people feel safer crossing the road here could well be counter-productive to preventing RTAs

Re: What Nationality Are You

I hate to agree with JamJar, but he's right on this occasion as far as I can tell I am and English man. I was born in England, to English parents, but my passport clearly states "British Citizen" under nationality. When you fill in a form on the internet do you go looking for "English" in the drop-d...

Re: The Beer Thread

When I was a young drinker in my first job an older guy told me 'as soon as you get home after a session drink as much water as you can force inside you'. I always remembered his words. 2-3 pints is all I can usually manage after a night on the sauce, but I do think it helps the next morning (the e...
