Re: The Beer Thread

Being Belgian, I love to start off with a Hoegaarden to kill the thirst, then a Stella (or a Chang) with my meal, and end up with a Leffe (or a Lao, which I find very similar for a fraction of the price). All of them preferably draught if possible! [emoji482]. If I was younger, I'd take the Belgian...

The Intercontinental already charges 7.7% VAT, I wonder if they pocket the 0.7%
They charge 7% VAT and 10% service charge on top of the total bill, including the VAT, which is distributed to the staff.

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

Hi season should pretty much be finished now anyway, shouldn't it? Usually picks up again a bit for Songkran then that's it.

Re: The Energy Cha-am

I'd imagine of all the units that have been sold, whatever the number, half of them are probably occupied once or twice a year at best, and a good few of the remaining ones are probably just weekend homes.

I wouldn't get involved but I'd feel uneasy if I saw somebody acting the way you described. (I'd feel even more awkward seeing the others sticking their noses in) - if that's really all they had left, what exactly did you expect them to do about it?

Re: Hua Hin Beach - experience

I've not been for that daytime jaunt yet, but yes, it looks as though the brollies and beds are back. The difference now is that they're packed away each night. Walking in the dark, all that I see is shadows on the sea wall, but closer examination by torchlight reveals what it is. So maybe a workab...

Re: Book Thai Train Tickets Online Again

I booked tickets online today. I signed up to the site yesterday and began the process, but I didn't have the passport numbers for all passengers so I had to come back today. One oddity when trying to log back in, after clicking the "login" button, Firefox reported that the page needed to be reloade...

Re: Which Mobile Phone?

Perhaps True still have 2G support. I know AIS and I think also DTAC no longer support it.

Re: Which Mobile Phone?

Anybody thinking of getting one of these 3310s beware; they only support 2G so will not work with most mobile networks over here.

Re: Visiting the Animals at Kuiburi National Park

A word of warning - it can be very hit and miss. I went there a while back and all I saw was one elephant at extremely long range, and a deer which came skipping past the truck while we were in transit. The staff were very apologetic and desperately communicating with each other on the radios to try...

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

Standing in the line in Immigration it is also annoying that the desks for Thais have either no line or short lines and they are through in very short time. So on arrival tourist get the first message, you are 2nd class. When my girlfriend came to the UK she her queue took an hour and a half before...

why the green baht-bus do not double the running cars ?
Because in low season they can be virtually empty.

Re: Getting employed. What is needed?

It's extremely difficult. I was searching for an it position here a few years ago. There were some positions available to foreign nationals advertised on a well known online jobs database, but the salaries were appalling and you'd be working in BKK 6 days a week, 10 hours a day. The chances of findi...

Re: Riding a motorcycle on an International Driving Permit

It is certainly legal to ride a bike in the UK using a Thai licence and an IDP. Weather you'd get insurance for doing so is a different issue. I don't think any rental places would cover the risk; but if you were trying to get listed as a named rider on somebody else's policy then you might have bet...

Re: Book Thai Train Tickets Online Again

One minor advantage I can see of using the online service, if it actually works, is that tickets printed at the station clearly state that they can't be replaced in event of loss. With electronically generated tickets you could just print them off again if you misplace them. I'm doing a train trip n...
