Re: Solar power setup for your home in Thailand

ROI for us works out at about 10 years, considering our current usage and the 'medium house with batteries' quote from that site (and buying another 3 a/c units). But it would be nice to leave the a/c on all day and mitigate the constant power outages!

Re: Thailand to introduce compulsory travel insurance/tourist tax

Call to renew levy on tourists Tourism operators are urging the new tourism minister to resume the plan to collect a 300-baht fee from tourists because it is not considered an obstacle to arrivals. The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) said it plans to discuss the necessity of this project with Ser...

Re: Solar power setup for your home in Thailand

As always, some good info and feedback in this thread. Let us know the costs and how the installation goes, Steve. I am still looking into solar since our power bills (and almost everyone else I know) skyrocketed last month ... a trend that is likely to continue. I calculated our ROI to be around 12...

Re: Thai Minimum Wage Increase

Fairplay, but more backing for the argument for price hikes across the board for everything and everyone to cover the increases while the govt hikes taxes. The majority will be worse off at the end of the month which means more debt.

Re: Thai Minimum Wage Increase

We read every few days about Thailand's terrible debt situation, so where will this extra 40฿/day come from? Tax 'em, tax 'em again, then tax 'em some more, something this govt appears pretty adept at. Higher wages leads to increased costs for staff, services, labour, deliveries, products, food, et...

Re: The 90 Day Report Thread

The 24-hour reporting after arrival and 90-day confirmation of address reporting are two different things. The stamps in and out are in the immigration database, but the address confirmation doesn't appear to be (hence the pieces of paper stapled into your passport ... which no other country I've be...

Re: The 90 Day Report Thread

Why do you report when you return? My understanding, perhaps wrong, is when you leave the country then return the return date starts the 90 day cycle irregardless of the cycle before leaving. The idea for those of us not living near the immigration office is to keep the online cycle going. If the 9...

Re: The 90 Day Report Thread

Likewise, have done it online after returning. The two systems (online and manual/immigration) do not appear to be linked/connected so you can even do the online report when you're not in the country!

You do realize you can crank the screen brightness up manually when in sunlight ... the auto brightness setting often doesn't automatically react to rapid light intensity changes.

Don't have one on your phone? The camera on the new phone I just bought kicks arse, so much so that the DSLRs only come out for special occasions now!

It does look fantastic, shame the visa is such a ballache for certain passport holders.
