Re: Has Your Food Shopping Increased?

Its just general food and household supplies, possibly a bit of cheese and some meat, definitely fish, lots of pak, dairy, coffee/tea, and usually pet food. If you want to add a bottle of wine or two, that bill will surge. Our monthly grocery/household expenditure here (for a family, not an individu...

Re: Has Your Food Shopping Increased?

The thread asked whether food shopping costs had increased, and my answer is a resounding yes, sparking the comparison with other countries (would be interesting to see how grocery prices in the US or Oz compare.) We don't eat out that often because we don't like all the sugar that goes into local r...

Cabinet mulls easing alcohol curbs The cabinet has agreed in principle on five bills to amend the alcoholic beverages control law, which seek to extend selling hours and allow greater flexibility for advertisements, prompting opposition from anti-alcohol advocates. A Bold Step Forward – Legalizing Casinos in Thailand

Re: The Beer Thread 2

Yes, or 490 or whatever the standard is in Thailand now.

Edit: I haven't seen them in 7-Elevens, but that's probably due to the monopoly that controls it not allowing competitor's products. My go-to shops are now CJs and Tops for better beer selections.

Re: Has Your Food Shopping Increased?

:offtopic: this thread is about FOOD SHOPPING - not restaurants which we know are cheaper in Thailand because they don't have the high rents/overheads/taxes/regulations/hygiene standards/staff wages/etc. We all have different experiences, but I know for a fact we get much more groceries for the same...

Re: Has Your Food Shopping Increased?

You can't compare restaurants to grocery shopping, its apples and oranges. This thread is about food shopping.

Our Makro shop is always over 5,000 baht and we get very little here for that. In Aldi or Lidl in the UK, you'd get two trolley's worth of food for a hundred plus quid.

Re: Has Your Food Shopping Increased?

Groceries in the UK have always been cheaper than in Thailand where, apparently, "there is no inflation," yet food, utility bills, fuel, etc, keeps getting hiked. (And yes, I know some smartarse will probably tell me pork is 11 baht cheaper than it was in 2022.) :banghead:

Re: Chiang Mai Listed Where Couple Can Retire for US$1,500/month

Chiang Mai is also listed as the most polluted city on Earth. Happy retirement ... in hospital where, as a foreigner, your $1,500 wont last a day unless you have insurance. "On Thursday morning, dust and smoke from forest fires covered the runway at Chiang Mai Airport, near Doi Suthep in Mueang...
