Re: Thai travelling to Thailand on UK passport

Returning to Thailand on an expired Thai passport is valid. My other half did the same when she returned to live here, travelling from LHR with Jet.

Is there anything left by the British in Burma?

There used to be some fortifications on Sentosa in Singapore.

Re: Western kitchen - Homepro or Boonthavorn??

I looked at Kvik enthusiastically, but the lack of transparency about their prices is silly. When I queried their initial OTT quote, they said tell us your budget and we'll work to that and I just thought give me a competitive price and I'll work to that. After considering various other options, I e...

Re: Arrival to carousel time at BKK airport?

There is a shuttle from the Hua Hin Bus station that will take you to the clock tower as stated, but will also take you to your accommodation as well. A fee may be involved, but no more than 100 baht. I regularly take this shuttle as I live 15 minutes SW of town, I am always the last to be dropped o...

Re: Smoking ban on Hua Hin and Thai beaches, jail time for offenders

I just received an updated Thailand travel advice via email from the Gov.UK website: Thai authorities have introduced a smoking ban in November 2017 on beaches in certain tourist areas, including in Koh Samui, Pattaya and in Phuket, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chon Buri and Songkhla provinces. Those caught...

Re: How can Thailand curb its appalling road fatality rate?

They have to care first if they want to curb the problems and most Thais seem unconcerned.

Re: Pies in Hua Hin

The discussion was not whether I can get a delicious pork pie in Hua Hin but whether I can get an MM pork pie or a good copy. Well, for that, I would suggest the answer is no, but you can get a good pork pie. But if you ask me nicely :D, I will be happy to bring you back a Dickinson & Morris MM por...

Your 30 yr. old vinyl recordings will sound like crap compared to a 30 yr. old cd.
Well my hearing isn't good enough to challenge you on that, but that are an awful lot of folk out there who would! Not on the technical data, but simply on what provides the more authentic or better sound.

Re: Pies in Hua Hin

@caller - new Robinson / Tops in Phetchaburi - don't set your expectations too high. Thanks. I thought as much. I visit Bkk regularly and there is a TOPS near where I stay, but as I like to stock up on things not available for me in Hua Hin, I always pay a visit to the supermarket at Central Chit L...

Re: Pies in Hua Hin

That looks very acceptable and I'd happily eat it right now but, being picky, I wouldn't say it qualifies as a MM - the pastry doesn't look dark, crunchy, crusty or slatey enough and it's not closely hugging a dense pork and aspic filling. Sorry, I know I sound like a complete arse and I'm being fa...

The pie shop in Soi 94 also has good pork pies (not MM) as well as a good selection of other pies, sausage rolls, scotch eggs, etc.
Good luck in getting a pork pie from there though!

Re: Record Shop & Cafe

I wonder how many privately owned turntables there are in HH...? You might be surprised! Vinyl seems to be making a comeback everywhere. If I could find my old albums that are somewhere here, I might be tempted myself. When I went to Fortune Tower in Bangkok, I was amazed at the number of shops sto...
