Re: Thailand to England move

Cooler weather, VS? About 10 years ago, I had to go back to England for 3 months. My property in London was being underpinned (fortunately an insurance job) but I had no rent for that time. It was easier to go back, stay with family and then travel down to London and try and do a lot of the touching...

Re: Books

I promised a review of le Carre's latest offering "A Legacy of Spies" and after putting it off for a while, I finally got through it a few days ago so here's my thoughts. I'll try not to give too much away. Most of what I mention you'll encounter in the first 30 odd pages. First off, I thought it wa...

AC/DC's Malcolm Young Passes Away

Sad news for all us Rock 'n' Rollers. Malcolm Young has passed away, aged 64.
If I have a beer later, I'll put some loud music on. Hope the neighbours won't mind!!

Re: The Digital Surgery

You might be on to something, Buksi. Did as you suggested and switched the computer on without the internet. Came back to it 45 mins later and it was working fine. Ran a Malwarebyte and Avast scan and had no issues with either. Switched the modem on again and went out for 25 mins and have come back ...

Re: The Digital Surgery

And switch off, BB.
No, something sinister is going on and I'll take it to the computer shop on Monday. At least I can get 10-15 mins of connection and working computer so can check emails and so on, albeit quickly.

Re: The Digital Surgery

Unfortunately, that hasn't worked. Got most of the gunk out while being careful and reconnected. As before, starts up fine and connects to the internet but this time, after maybe 15 mins, I couldn't connect to any net page again (altho internet is connected), couldn't get further than D drive, docs ...

Re: The Digital Surgery

The fans are going round OK but it's a disgrace in there. Bloody awful. Suppose I'll be cleaning soon. Is it safe to put a vacuum in there? Maybe not as it's pretty powerful.

Re: The Digital Surgery

Thanks will try that. On start up just now, as the comp has done for ages, it did a disk scan and for the first time it threw up an error in C drive and corrected it.
If it's the fans, then I don't get an alarm but this is a different comp to the one that happened to before. I'll take a look. Thanks.

Re: The Digital Surgery

I have a problem with the computer and am wondering if anyone can help. It starts up OK and connects to the internet but then after maybe 10-15 mins, things start to go wrong. Internet pages won't load. The computer is trying to connect but can't. Although I can get to documents and the relevant pag...

Re: House location now required by visa extension

That's always been a requirement.
I spend ages every year colouring and shading my work of art but over the past few years it's just been thrown back in my face.
I'll make an especial effort with my masterpiece next year.

Re: Hua Hin’s tallest building to open this month

Well, that's another building that blends in with the architectural heritage of Hua Hin.
I'm glad to read that there are more monstrosities planned.
EDIT - what are MICEs? I thought that rats in the kitchen were bad enough.

Re: 'How To' - Requirements for visa extensions etc

Many offices are now allowing renewals of extensions up to 45 days days early. I'm not sure if HH is one of them but hopefully someone else can confirm.

Re: Advise requirements needed for oa visa

I think the basic differences between visas have been adequately explained above. The OA visa is of a Non Immigrant variety just as the O visa is and likewise are the B, M, D etc etc. I can't remember all of them but any of them put you on a different footing over here as opposed to a tourist visa o...

Re: Clean Hua Hin's beaches movement - Trash Hero

I'd agree with you there, BB. I'm not sure about the year but 2010 sounds about right for the debris. And it's the "natural" stuff that I always think is dangerous to me as I walk the beach. The bamboo that might well spear me, the rusty nail on a bit of wood. It's actually quite dangerous to walk t...
