Re: Aus voting

It is interesting that in Aus voting is compulsary so there is a 94% turnout as opposed to less than 505 in the land of the free and home of the brave, the great defender of democracy.

I do think that in Ausi n particular but in ALL countries there should be a box to tick--NONE OF THE ABOVE

Re: Whats up with the breakfast scene here? Any suggestions?

There is another huge thread on B'fast places and in the end its all very personal. For instance in addition to good food, I need nice view with a cabaret to watch, good WiFi and a copy of the BKK Post. For many other people those are irrelevant. I like El Murphy's

Re: Hello All - looking for somewhere new to visit....

How the hell can anybody know what somebody else is looking for. If you want to go out for a drink, meet and chat to a few available ladies, choose one and take her back to your hotel, all at reasonable prices--No problem. If you are looking for the excitement, entertainment and choices of Pattaya, ...

Re: Good restaurants around Hua Hin Hospital?

Another Britishism that confuses me--when somebody goes to a restaurant and says-- I was not dissappointed, does that mean it was not dreadful, just OK or does it mean something better than that??

From one extreme to the other. The Egg McMuffin, McDs huge B'fast suceess was invented in a McDs franchise in California, the owner was trying to do an Eggs Benedict look alike. In the early version he even did a Hollamdaise sauce but that proved too messy. I am not a big Mcds fan, but thier breakfa...

Re: Have you decided to leave Thailand and/or Hua Hin?

It is interesting how a language has a culture built into it. I worked for a company, one of the Thai senior managers had spent many years in the US, his English was perfect. If things went wrong, he would lose his temper and shout at the staff BUT he would shout in English. It was 'permissible' to ...

Re: Homeless foreigners in Thailand 'lack assistance'

A couple of years ago, I saw a farang begging on Sukhumvit near Robinson's, I wanted to help. I went to McD and bought a hamburger and juice for him. I offered them to him. He cursed me out and said he wanted money. I walked away with my McD meal and gave it to a Thai beggar, who smiled and thanked ...

Re: High-speed train bids to start in 2013

Its hard to work out--will all the HiSo Thais who have condos here pressure for the HST, at the moment trains are regarded as a low-class means of transportation. That changed in China. once people saw and rode on the trains, but you have to get them built first. The French were the first to develop...

AEC--Look at the European Union. I agree that the essential way of doing things will remain the same, That is true in the European Union too, the Italians remain Italians and the Germans German, but slowly, through the central authorities dictats some change will evolve. Stickman's review of Chau Lay was a rave one. I have eaten tere several times and agrree the food is good and the portiond large. I am surprised that many expats heredismiss it as a tourist trap. It is I understand favored by Chinese Thais particularly. He also talks about smaller dock side food sta...
