yabz don't believe that about snakes hating lemons. I've been in lemon and lime orchard and there were plenty of snakes hanging around in there. Her ladyship often scatters lime skins around our garden but we still see them. Oh, and by the way, you should not mention them by name either as this will...

In a recent tv interview of some of the Cambodian troops at the site they said they were getting sick of waiting to fight the Thai troops as they had been promised new uniforms and especially good boots like the Thais wore if they were to engage in a shoot out. Some of them then went on to admit to ...

There has been a bit on the tv and in the press the last couple of days about preparing for future major cyclonic storms .
I understood this to be just part of a long term awareness and educational program .
Is this what you are referring to BG??

Spitfire , We were down at the new Markets a few days back with an 80 year old Thai aunt in tow. Spent ages and ages wandering around and decided to rest the poor old girl thinking that this must be a real spin out for her. We sat down in the main cafe area ,went thru that routine of having to purch...

My good Mrs has made it a non negotiable-" You have to speak Thai and correctly too"- she says I have to watch the news and those( stupid )soapies and take note. And all the family have been supportive too as I 've stumbled along with my learning. One obvious advantage is the better prices...

JD, My local aircon service man uses recycled cooking oil and fat as a substitute for regular diesel fuel in his Toyota van. He collects it from a well known fast food chain and processes it at home in some gear he made from metal scrap. So many other people are now chasing this used oil for this us...

Some dear friends just came back from Phuket and were charge double that their Thai mates were for the same meal at an Indian place. When they questioned this charge the manager came over and said to them " you pay money and f#*@ away". They were pretty shocked especially as they had young...

See where you are coming from Sarge, It's probably a little bit like football where the umpire makes a decision and we may not all agree on it but that is the ump's view and somebody has, after all, got to get in and run the show somehow . The overall plus here is that we at least do have an opportu...

Sandman,
please listen to PJG 's warning . I'm in a related business and see regular cases of good people coming out backwards in bad deals.
The pros have it all sown up , in fact they run a whole industry around casual dealers.

I was right at the back in one of about 4 long lines at the departure section at Swampi thinking that we were going to be there forever when an official came over and pulled a few of us out of the lines and sent us to the empty Thai passpot holders area. She said as we were all wearing the commerati...

Johnnyk, I'm talking Gong Tanu in Lop Buri which, according to the boss, is just down the road from Ban Mi. And yes the returns for such effort seem pityful don't they.Their costs for the urea fertilizer are a big part of it too- supposed to have doubled in very recent times and this stuff is contro...

My inlaws are contracted growers in Lop Buri and are up for 4% pay rise this season which they say does not cover their costs. The processors have told them that "fuel costs are so high and that this is a great deal for them".
I suspect that they are being slightly shafted here.

Ask any common Thai rice grower how much better off they are now with these heafty hikes in rice prices and they will tell you they are not getting any of it.
For those in LOS maybe time to start buying direct of some of those small co-ops around the place and get rid of the middle men.
