Re: Dengue fever in Hua Hin?

They don't actually do houses and gardens, just along the edges of the sois and the fog drifts around. Only public sois I would guess, so gated communities would presumably arrange this sort of thing themselves.

Re: Dengue fever in Hua Hin?

Maybe Smor Phrong is a Dengue hotspot?

Re: Dengue fever in Hua Hin?

We've just been "fogged" in Smor Phrong area. That's 3 times in the last 4 months or so. It seems like Hua Hin at least is taking the threat of Dengue seriously. Hopefully it'll cut down the number of flies as well.

Re: Snake bites

We've had Malayan Pit Vipers. These are not brightly coloured and can be hard to spot unless out in the open. Apparently they won't easily give ground like many other snakes. They kill more people in Thailand than any other snake. And they can jump, so be very careful about trying to catch them your...

Re: poor customer service banana IT

They still make laptops without wi-fi???? Banana IT is a national chain and has a call centre. If it's not too long ago your friend should try the call centre. If enough people call with complaints about the MV branch it might cause a change of culture there. I tend to agree with an earlier poster w...

Re: New car parks for Hua Hin?

Can't have a public park in the town centre. That would be a waste of valuable real estate. We need more hotels and shopping centres. And car parks of course. Anyway, there's always the beach. And Hin Lek Fai park on the top of the hill. They should spend some money up there and get rid of t...

Re: New car parks for Hua Hin?

Customers can use the car park if they can find a space. Many spaces are reserved anyway as shown by the car reg numbers posted in them. I usually end up in the open air car park at the back - especially when it's raining. Never met the sour-faced bag. Usually everyone is pleasant enough. But I've o...

Re: Routine Eye Sight tests in Thailand

Having used Top Charoen a couple of times I certainly wouldn't recommend them. Especially for prescription sunglasses - "yes sir, we have to get proper tinted lenses from Bangkok as we only have coated here" - and the colour was faded inside 6 months. In fact I'd be very interested if anyo...

Re: Train Crash Soi 94

Whilst regretting the death and injuries I still wonder what was going on in the car. What was the driver doing? When you approach this crossing from the west, going towards Market Village, the rail track isn't exactly hidden and you can see the track for hundreds of meters in both directions from w...

Re: Credit Card from a Thai bank

Kasikorn used to issue credit cards to farangs with a work permit. At least they did for me about 8 years ago. Also, as I mentioned in a previous post, Bank of Ayudhya might be amenable to giving a credit card based on a reserved amount in a bank account. I've often found that you can get more help ...

Re: New Sangtheaw Services

Ah, that explains my waits. Of course, it seems most of my trips are 1100-1500, so I better get used to it. Thanks for the repost. I saw that map before and couldn't read the street names, but sorta kinda figured out some of the pictures. (What's a big boat doing to the west of the railroad?) If th...

Re: Credit Card from a Thai bank

It's possible to get a credit card in another way. Neither my wife nor I are working (in our 60s). We have a normal savings account in the wife's name at Bank of Ayudhya. We asked at the bank and found it was possible for her to get a credit card based on a "reserved" amount of money in th...

Re: Hua Hin Festival 2013 & Miss Hua Hin Contest; Apr 28-May

26 Apr until 5 May. Went last night. There's the usual stuff. Market stalls along the street. Funfair. Central seating area in front of stage with food and drink in easy reach. Miss Hua Hin contest on 5 May. There was a reasonable Thai pop concert last night. Probably different artists each night. T...
