Re: Upcoming general election fundamentally flawed: Human Rights Watch

Ah, so this is an interesting tactic. Perhaps what Pita has had in mind. It will be interesting to see how many put their vote where their mouth has been.

Yep. I think there’s something else afoot but no idea what it might be.

Re: Upcoming general election fundamentally flawed: Human Rights Watch

Still, when asked about this (the Senate), Pita seems unconcerned and says he’s not worried. I still wonder, what’s the plan?

Re: Upcoming general election fundamentally flawed: Human Rights Watch

I wonder what MF's strategy is for electing a PM? It seems clear that Pita cannot get much, if any, Senate support. Already some Senators have publicly said that they won't vote for him. On Inside Thailand this morning a Senator said that there are only about 20 "independent" Senators out ...

Another article here: https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/nasas-voyager-will-do-more-science-with-new-power-strategy Explains what they did to get an extra three years: "To help keep those instruments operating despite a diminishing power supply, the aging spacecraft has begun using a small reservoir...

Re: Buying a new laptop

I’ve never been a laptop fan and until recently had never purchased one for myself. At my condo in Cha Am I’ve been using a 13 year old hand-me-down MacBook which I upgraded to 8GB RAM, a 256 GB SSD and a new battery. It does everything I need including LibreOffice, the free MS Office clone. At home...

Re: The Beer Thread 2

Turns out the man is a biology teacher at Assumption College in Bangkok. All he did was post a photo with a review. Just as I have done dozens of times on these pages not realizing that I was a dangerous criminal. Most of his FB posts are either family or biology related. Time to get him behind bars...

Re: Astronomy, cosmology and space thread

I guess he shoulda stuck to electric cars and rockets. I love to see the leaps and bounds of progress he's made with space flight. I think the "test early and often" mantra is a good one. I look forward to the next attempt. On another topic: I was sorry we weren't able to observe yesterday...

Looking north from Thew Talay World in Cha Am (near the Shell station).

On a clear day one could easily see Khao Yai and the cement plant that sits at its southern tip. The obscured buildings (Lumpini Condo and Grand Pacific) are only a few kilometers away.

Re: Upcoming general election fundamentally flawed: Human Rights Watch

Even the mechanics of the election are deeply flawed. The bizarre use of numbers instead of names on ballots is, perhaps, meant to be as confusing as it is.

Home grown, indeed. This at a wat not far from my home in Korat. The entire grounds of the wat had fires like this. The monk was furiously sucking on a cigarette as he supervised the burn.

Re: Thailand tourism situation

My wife had work in Chonburi so we spent another night in Jomtien last Thursday. The tourism situation was somewhat underwhelming; especially compared to our visit last December when it was quite busy. The popular Akvavit bar (decent sunsets and draft beer) had plenty of seats available. Hemingway's...
