Re: GMX and Mail.Com

Yes - I was about to ask whether it was local blocking by the overseers, as opposed to GMX or mail.com. No idea why that might be the case - but such things are not unusual.

Re: Customs shakedown at the airport

There are a number of isolated reports of the same happening in the UK. Usually, as the good doctor says, single men returning from places of ill repute (ie, Thailand) and frequently at antisocial hours, when I guess they assume people will think that staffing levels are lower.

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

Definitely a lot more 'exposed' heads on 94 - you can spot them a mile off. The BiB have actually been fairly successful at getting the longer term residents to use some kind of a helmet through their constant harassment efforts.

Re: Thailand tourist slump continues

Soi 88 food plaza and the restaurants in 94 appear to be much busier the last 10 days or so. Certainly the snow-bird numbers are up, but I share the opinions above about 'tourists' as such, in that most of the traditional tourist market from Europe seems light to non-existent.

Re: Approx Hua Hin resident population off season

I would also take a look at Prachuab city. I have toyed with moving there myself. From your requirements, I suspect getting around town will be something of an issue for you. Realistically, only the main road - Petchkasem - is served with (Green) Baht buses. There is a second bus which runs a loop a...

Re: your favourite 5 medium price places to eat in Hua Hin..

There's quite a lot of contenders. Firstly, it depends a lot on what kind of food, and what kind of environment you are looking for, but purely on budget: 1) Almost anything in the Food Plaza at the 88 railway crossing. 2) Almost anything at the railway crossing on 94 (both sides). 3) The Thai barbe...

Re: Belgian motorcyclist killed in Hua Hin

@ pdm3547 Wat Saphan Khilek is the temple on the back road between 94 and 102. It is also called Wat Charun. Lots of sharp corners on the road, and very poor (if any) lighting. Usually the road is in pretty poor condition when it is wet. Assuming it is that road, and at the 94 end, then I cannot say...

Re: Is Living Here Difficult for You?

You know what though, I was in Bangkok a couple of weeks back and as it happened my drive through town coincided with the office workers' daily commute. The dull faces and monotonous trudge so reminded me of the City of London that it was scary. It certainly wasn't an advertisement for going to the ...

Re: Soi 94 map

Yokkhok has an English name on it. I have no agenda as regards it but I cannot see your rationale in ignoring it when it is squarely n your map space. Why the prejudice, given the other Thai places with English language names (eg Oy)?

Re: Soi 94 map

Because they are on your map. MV is not And Cajutan is certainly not written in Thai. FYI the Thai place is called Yokkhok, and if I wanted to delve into exclusively Thai places, there's 3 on 94 along from Saxophone I would have mentioned. Yokkhok is very popular with Farang - they seem to find it e...
