Feb. 27 (Bloomberg) -- Thaksin Shinawatra said he will return to Thailand tomorrow, almost 18 months after being ousted as prime minister in a military coup. ``Yes, I'm going back,'' Thaksin said in Hong Kong today, declining to speak further. He will arrive at Bangkok airport at 9:40 a.m. on a Thai...

According to the British press there is no mention of Thai politics. Apparently Man. City chairman Thaksin is returning to free up his frozen assets for further investment in the club!

Has anyone else noticed the price of cheese and butter literally going through the roof. We used to buy a large block (2kg) of boring cheddar for about 600 baht - it's now 1,400 baht. Orchid butter has gone up from around 46 baht to 55 baht (in a week!). What's going on...? VS, there’s been a wor...

"After 10pm, Bangkok streets must be free from crimes, rapes, mugging and brawls. BMA municipal policemen will work with local police to make sure these crimes don't happen," he added. In my opinion they’re targeting the wrong part of the day; all of the biggest crooks in Bangkok work o...

Yes, I think dogs are a good defense against snakes, we have a couple up in Issan and I’ve never seen a snake close around the house but if you go out the village they’re all over the place, particularly in the sugar cane fields. I can only think that it’s the dogs that keep them away or perha...

I know what you mean Richard; last month my partner was telling me she got some guys to cut down a tree in the night to make us a new set of gates. Apparently it was already dead though so I won’t take any blame for accelerating the demise of the planet, but as you say you’re not going to stop t...

Will the commanding officers awarded by the coup makers for their role in the overthrow of the Thaksin regime in 2006 be axed from key troop-commanding positions, replaced by officers close to Thaksin's former mates in Class 10.
I hope they have a good pension plan, those guys are gone!

I believe there is a golf society that organizes this kind of thing based around Billy’s bar, but hopefully someone will give you more details as I gave up on the sport due to my inability to do a round under about 150.

I’ve heard this many times, but if it’s true I have to say that the large cobra I came across in a rice field last year was showing remarkable composure considering how scared it must have been!

A friend of mine was staying in the Hyatt during the ban in December and they wouldn’t even give him a drink in the bar there, only room service. It’s a pretty lousy deal for tourists.

Re: Gold chain

It sounds as if you haven't bought Thai gold before duck. Very slightly off thread, but I got told off once by a pc female line manager for calling a friend and colleague "duck" and I mean really told off. You don't seem to fall into this category, thank goodness. OK, really off thread. (...

Thai gold is normally 23 Karat, and one baht of gold is technically 15.244g but in terms of jewelry it is the weight after work and should be at least 15.16g.
Here’s the going rate:
