Re: Thai maps for a UK Satnav

Agree, and quite surprised there is even a market for such items anymore. If you're going to buy anything, get a Xiaomi Mi 20k mAh power bank ..... :D

Just picked up 2 on sale at Shoppee ฿700 ea.

Google Maps is an amazing info resource.

Re: Buying a Car

Shopping by the 'numbers' now, myself, I'm leaning toward the Honda Jazz now. 4cyl / 1.5L Reference to safety features, and obviously, 'made in Thailand', most substandard, well, everything is to western specs, and simply to keep costs down. Stripped down, they're overpriced / taxed as it is As long...

Re: Buying a Car

They don't seem to be big on test driving here, my experience anyway.

Which ever you chose, especially if 3 cyl entry level, suggest you lease one for at least 1 day, and put it through it's paces. May reinforce, or turn you off your decision.

As a drive around the block doesn't help a whole lot.

Re: Buying a Car

Agree, and we have had the M2 sedan for about 7 yrs now. The hatchback, though I like the look better, sacrifices trunk / boot space, along with when we bought, our daughter lived with us, and sedan adds quite a bit more crunch space, if rear-ended. Fold down rear seats, so will accommodate clubs, a...

Re: As Bangkok mall hype mounts, some question pace

Economics, marketing and supply and demand will dictate the continued success or failure.

I quite enjoy them, the food courts anyway. Awaiting my ICONSIAM visit shortly

Re: Buying a Car

I personally would only buy new. The prices of used, I find a bit silly high, and if most houses, townhouse show the locals attitude toward maintenance, then that's the second reason. Which is strange, as 25+ yrs of car purchases in the USA, and I only bought 1 new, and that was a truck for my busin...

Re: Buying a Car

Your entry level, 4 cyl, 1.5L enginw, auto trans (CVT) tried and tested, 'Made in Thailand' start at about ฿600k +/-

Toyota Vios / Varis (hatchback) ... owned, good car
Mazda2 Sedan / hatchback ... own now, good car

Only here 5 months, simply a tourist and a couple of those visas would suffice.

Re: Are expats falling out of love with the Land of Smiles?

Haven't change my opinion of retirement choice, though also didn't arrive with blinders on. Still has what my priorities were to chose, no to low RE Taxes = more pocket money, along with inexpensive and accessible healthcare, if needing in my old age. So same same for me. Exchange rate sucks, but no...

Going to hit and miss. You might have fiber optics cable available, or barely get a data connection on your phone. Depends where exactly located.

Re: BKK moderately priced hotel by skytrain

Huge metro of neighborhoods. Central to ? Though most things are a short ride away on the rail lines. Riverside if first timer and wanting to see, the 'must see' tourist sites, listed earlier. Wang Lang hotel would be my first suggesting to anyone, especially more mature folks not looking for heavy ...

Re: BKK moderately priced hotel by skytrain

Are these first time tourist, how old, and fit (don't mind a stroll) and can handle 500 m to hotel. Can actually filter the booking sites (booking.com) for a particular BTS / MRT station. I personally prefer MRT, less crowded and have the ol' folks discount, using their debit card. They here for tou...

Re: Land, building a house in Huai Yang/Thap Sakae

300k, can be done, and a very plain jane house. Though possibly, probably not 10 years from now, as pushing it now. Do call well in advance for the Land Office to survey and divide and plug the land. I may take a few months ahead of time. Without road access, it does throw a wrench into things. No p...
