Re: Cars and bikes we have owned and loved or hated

I remember the old R5 GT Turbo, used to wipe the floor with them in my Pug 205 1.9 GTi.

The Mk I Golf GTi 1800 was also a great car.

Re: The Digital Surgery

You will not be able to copy any file larger than 2.1Gb to a FAT32 system.

Yes you can convert but you'll lose all of the data so back it up first.

Yes, have experienced what you're describing with that provider, usually has two causes:

Afternoon/evening slow downs: over subscription, kids filling online gaming shops when school kicks out.
Disconnections: bad cabling - they will fix it if you keep on at them.

Have a look at this if you want ideas of where to stop on the way: http://www.huahinforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=17492 The ferry to Koh Tao from Chumphon is passenger only, you'd need to drive to Don Sak in Suratthani if you want to take the car over to Samui. Prachuab or Bangsaphan are good d...

Re: Where to find chinese and orential spices

Makro in Pranburi has a bunch of stuff, you can get most things for a decent curry (cumin seeds, coriander, turmeric, garam) but for stuff like black mustard seeds and fenugreek may need a trip elsewhere.

Re: Internet work

I would imagine most of those work from home sites are scams, as mentioned above, if you are asked to pay, alarm bells should be ringing... I'd agree with that, the vast majority of these "work from home" websites operate as follows: 1) Read a big spammy blurb about how Mrs Braithwaite fr...

Re: Best Thai Bank

Banks vary enormously depending on where they are (and who is managing them), I've been into banks in HH and been refused everything then have gone into the same branch in a different city and they're falling over themselves to help.

Check that you haven't left the "leave a copy on the server" option on - or the account hasn't been setup for IMAP instead of POP3. It also maybe worth deleting the account and setting it up again (you won't lose any email). Finally have a word with the hosting company, their mail servers ...

Re: Apple iPhones and 3G iPads tracking owners movements

Internet advertising is a massive market and Apple are chasing Google so it is no surprise that personal data is collected. Google and Yahoo are the grand daddies of it - both companies keep search and browsing records including IP addresses and cookies for 18 months! On another amusing note, the fr...

Re: Buying stock/shares on the SET

I know a couple of guys that do it - the astute ones make a tidy sum. As mentioned above most local banks will offer trading accounts, some will accommodate aliens, others wont.

No chance of getting a visa on the back of it though.
