Re: Mosquito spray called
I very rarely get bitten and, despite having had a bad bout of dengue, will not spray those chemical ones on my skin. I have a friend over that has over 60 bites per leg after travelling around for a few days. If I am travelling or starting to get bitten in HH I use a soap that a friends wife makes ...

Re: Epsom salt
It is magnesium sulphate. Spas and hair product manufacturers will use it. When I was told I could not get salt petre here I google translated it,, practiced saying it a few times and went to a shop just before you get to the road with the gold shops on the right hand side coming from Petchkasem. Th...

Re: Maximum ATM withdrawal and lowest fee
Most of the posters seem to be using cards from their own country. Why do you not just open a Thai bank account and transfer in your money that you think you will need? No charges for ATM withdrawls if it is your own bank machine. I have Bangkok bank 150,000 per day, Kasikorn 200,000 per day, Krungs...

Re: Would you drive a black car in Hua Hin?
Very un PC sexist and racist comments on this thread Suggesting black cars are "hotter" than white cars. Blaming the woman for choosing black. Saying black is hard to keep clean!
Black cars matter! So do White cars. All cars should be equal

Re: Why I Rarely Give Way to Pedestrians at Crossings
Maybe the rider thought you were slowing down to stop as there were people looking like they were about to cross or maybe just a retard. Overloaded bike and not a lot of helmets going on; Right in front of the police. No prizes for guessing whose fault it would have been if you had hit the gas and c...

Re: Bluport wine/beer bar - drinks + 10pct service + 7pct VAT on top.
I have always objected to obligatory service charge. It should be at your discretion. Places that apply it I do not tip unless I know that the service charge is not going to the staff; Which it should IMO. Also, if it is applied, it should be clearly stated on the menus not in fine print that you do...

Re: Solid wood floor vs Engineered wood floor
Well I have loads of wooden furniture, not floors, skirting and architrave in wood. I have designed and supervised the build of some really nice wooden floors. Not a termite in sight. There again I have monthly pest control. Having watched guys I use on many occasions they craft their product with p...

Re: Do you use your phone while driving.
Bit hard if you are drinking a beer and smoking when it rings so I just pull over and call them back. Should really have a law against motorbike riders texting whilst riding if there are more than 3 people on the bike IMO.

Re: Thai driver license final driving test in an automatic?
Rules must have changed. I just rocked up in the morning early, took the multiple choice test and a reaction test, lined up 2 straws in a box, identified I was not colour blind, went for lunch and then took a drive around a car park with a few manoeuvres which were demonstrated first. I needed a med...

Well I purchased a mackbook pro and an imac with legal copies of cs5 and all of a sudden they tell me that"power pc" is no longer supported. Dug out my old macbook that I only kept for spare parts and visitors to use internet if they did not bring a laptop. Works fine on cs2. Sometimes whe...

Re: ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK Movies at Hua Hin Cinema
Visited Bluport a couple of days ago to watch Underworld. Probably not going to be up for an Oscar but Kate Beckinsale in a skintight outfit running around killing werewolves you Can't go wrong. We went to the matinee and only 4 people in the whole theatre so I tested out the expensive seats at the ...

Re: Jumping through hoops in Thailand
BB I have never tried to do it myself but have watched Thai friends go through the process. One was refused despite bank records showing regular income over years and enough capital remaining in the account, an address in the UK with relevant letter provided and proof in her passport she had visited...

Re: Jumping through hoops in Thailand
Very good post by the OP From experience and observation a lot of these "Hoops" are self created. I live and work here. Every 90 days I drive to the immigration office and report. In and out in minutes as I fill out the form prior. Only time I have waited longer is when some "No money...
