Re: Re Macro

And, don't forget to bring your own plastic bags 'cause Makro just rings up the items and puts them right back into a shopping cart without bagging them. That's OK if you just buy big bulky items, but if you buy lots of small individual items, you're loading them into your car individually.

Re: Hua Hin - UdonThani

Wife and I did the HH-UTH trip about 10 days ago, and took the train. I agree with Korkenzieher, that Nok Air from DM is more cost effective and convenient, especially when you consider the time involved. But, we weren't in a hurry and I was feeling adventurous. We had about 12-hour wait in BKK betw...

Re: Movies at Hua Hin Cinema

I'm just glad you reminded me that it was still playing, before it ended. The wife really wants to see it; I DL'ed #1 a couple nights ago so we would know what was going on in #2, then we got distracted with dentist/auto repair/etc and lost track of the important stuff.

Re: Movies at Hua Hin Cinema

Major Cinema website http://www.majorcineplex.com/en/search-results/?movieId_0=&cinemaId_1=2 says Insidious 2 shows twice, once at 16:20 and once at 21:00 - maybe they haven't updated their webpage yet? It's Thursday, so it's all change today. It looks as if my constant bombardment did get throu...

Re: 7 Reasons to Retire in Thailand

Only been here myself a handful of weeks, and so far I can say that I'm enjoying it. My inability to speak/read the language will be a handicap for me; I can see that if I can't communicate without assistance, then the fun will wear out sooner (rather than later) and I might want to relocate to some...

Re: How to recover from an "up to you" faux pas?

Ah, thanks all. I believe it's a silly thing for her to be as ticked off as she is when I utter those words; normally, I wouldn't understand what the issue was, either. However it's her culture, I try to respect it and accommodate her feelings. I didn't even realize what I had said/done until long a...

How to recover from an "up to you" faux pas?

My Thai wife of 10 months warned me never to utter the words "up to you" to her. This afternoon, she asked my opinion of something and, in the presence of a Thai man, I said "it's up to you". Everything immediately became very icy, and as soon as we returned home, she stormed off...

Re: Tom Clancy RIP

Many years ago, I was flying out of Jacksonville NC after a visit to Cherry Point Marine Corps Air Station (and a look at the yet-to-be deployed MV-22s). I had just purchased the latest Clancy hardback and settled into a coffee shop to read and pass time while waiting for my flight. As I'm reading, ...

Re: Movies at Hua Hin Cinema

I read some reviews this morning that absolutely gushed over the movie's special effects, accurate depiction of physics and Sandra Bullock's terrific acting... sorry to the newspaper's film critic, but from the trailers it seemed clear to me that it's just another second-rate, over-hyped suspense fl...

They may have lost one in the Bay of Bengal, but Pakistan just got one thanks to an earthquake: "...The 7.8 magnitude quake struck 145 miles southeast of Dalbandin in Pakistan's quake-prone province of Baluchistan, which borders Iran, on Tuesday. The earthquake was so powerful that it caused th...

Re: Purchasing a used car

I can't vouch for the accuracy of what's in the article referred to below (I haven't gone through the process of buying a car yet and have little experience here yet) but one part of the article that caught my eye was "Do not give the owner any money until the legality of the car has been check...
