Thanks Guys..... Better late than never! Just goes to show that one should never give up hope on receiving a response to a posting! Lev, is that a record for the longest gap between two postings in a thread? Seriously, the house was purchased on our visit last April and we are arriving this Sunday t...

I too was in the bazaar area a couple of times last Songkhran and didn't see any trouble. I arrived very late and esconced myself at Nancy's karaoke with an American pal of mine for a few hours, getting home to a locked up house and an angry wife! The only 'trouble' I saw was a group of very drunk N...

Deja vu! Sukhumvit just ain't the same since Clinton Plaza closed down! The replacement opposite was short lived (bulldozers a-gogo!) and what's left was squashed down the lanes. Its been reborn 3 times but not sure if Monica Bar will rise from the ashes again...

Cable TV

Apparently there is cable on the development on which my wife and I have bought our house. What are the advantages/disadvantages of cable vs. satellite TV? I understand that cable is about 250 Bt per month whereas satellite is around 2000 Bt per month. Apart from the cost (if I have got it right, th...

The area of beach immediately next to the 'restaurant' area on its North side (towards the pier) is bad news if you have kids, with loads of bottle tops, broken glass and other detritus from the restaurant area. Quaint it might be but safe it ain't. If the restaurants took more responsibility for cl...

Cheers fellas, I thought 'Billy's' had a bit of a Scottish ring to it. Being surrounded by drunken Scots might not be the best place for a drunken Welshman after Wales cane Scotland! Especially not after writing that! But after so many years of abject failure, shurely nobody will begrudge a bit of W...

6 Nations Rugby - Where to watch it in HH?

Getting back to Hua Hin on 12 March and want to watch Scotland Vs. Wales on the following Sunday night. Should be on at about 9 or 10 pm Thai time. Any suggestions as to the best place to watch it?

Vincent, I don't doubt that what you say is true. The Thai sense of self preservation does not seem to be as well developed as my own! However, I have to pick you up on something: there are no barriers, no lights and the signs are invisible in the pitch black of night at the crossing I was using las...

The Haunted Railway

The following is an extract from an article in the English language 'Hua Hin Today' paper. The article was titled 'Beware: Train Accidents Haunting Hua Hin' and describes the concerns of Khun Vichai Choo-Chumporn, the Hua Hin train station conductor (station master?) who recently released a press re...

Electrical Appliances

Where do people go for larger electrical appliances like fridge-freezers, washing machines etc and for smaller ones like kettles, toasters etc? I thought about bringing a kettle, toaster etc from the UK but the socket adapter was more expensive than the appliance! Are there any outlets in HH itself ...

Kitchen Companies/Fitters

With my bungalow in Hua Hin nearing completion :D I've had a quote which I think is a bit pricey for a small L-shaped western kitchen  . Anyone had a western kitchen fitted recently and/or know of a reasonable firm in the area that can supply and fit?

I need a short term rental

Coming to Hua Hin in April 2004 (first 2 weeks) on a house hunting expedition. I need a place to stay for me, the wife and kids. Doesn't necessarily need to be near the beach but preferably not more than a few kilometres from the town. Wife is Thai and I am used to slumming it up country in Nakhon N...

Buying a house in Hua Hin

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help. I am coming to Hua Hin in April with my wife (who needless to say is Thai) to buy a house. We have been a couple of times before and I don't need to tell any regular users of this forum why we like the place. Anyway, I have a couple of questions which I hope someone ...
