Re: Official Statement from BKK Bank in NY for US Fund Transfers

I tried TW again for a 5600USD transfer. They wanted 40.67USD plus their cut on the conversion rate.

I went with my bank and the standard 40USD. Conversion will be done at BKK Bank. Usually costs me an extra 10USD.

Frankly, this pisses me off. I probably would have earned a night or more in the Hilton.

Re: Frenchwoman fined, jailed and deported for vaping

If you don't want to do the time, don't do the crime.

There has been more than ample advertisement by the Thai Government and chatter on boards that vaping is illegal in Thailand.

Re: Official Statement from BKK Bank in NY for US Fund Transfers

TW is definitely more favorable for UK than US. UK 5000GBP fee is 27+. US 5000USD is 40+. Which is more than my bank charges me.

Exchange rate is decent but not enough to make it worth using them. They do seem to be UK centric.

Re: Official Statement from BKK Bank in NY for US Fund Transfers

Turns out, Transferwise would not save me any money. In fact it costs more. My bank's fee is 40.00USD regardless of amount wired.

Transferwise was over 40.00USD for 5000.00USD transfer.

Big Boy wrote: Thu Feb 14, 2019 12:34 pm Transferwise is simple. Log on and try it - you can do that without giving up information, paying money etc. It's there, have a look, no obligation. That way you can decide for yourself - I personally love it.
I signed up with them today. I'll use them next month.

The IRS will leave you alone as long as the transfer is less than 10k USD.

Re: Official Statement from BKK Bank in NY for US Fund Transfers

AH yes another excuse to use Transferwise.com which I switched to a year ago from Bangkok Bank of NY route. Transferwise is simpler and will net you less in fees with better exchange rate. Can you give some details on Transfer wise? Like will it work with Chase bank and what the fees are? Plus more...

Official Statement from BKK Bank in NY for US Fund Transfers

Got this in email. It is direct from BKK Bank in NY if you use them to transfer money from the US including government payments. This is not speculation or rumor. It is an official statement from the bank. Your transaction is considered a cross border transaction because the funds are ultimately bei...

Re: New retirement visa rule - show 800k every 3 months

I first came to Thailand in 2006. The rule for retirement visa was 800k in the bank for 3 months or 65k monthly income. The only changes I see now is certain embassies are no longer certifying income, now the bank needs to do it (in my opinion that's who should have been doing it all along) and this...

Finally something direct from the horse's mouth.
Most importantly....If going the income route...no matter if the extension is based on marriage or retirement...the funds have to come from overseas.
Go back 2 or 3 pages, the horse spoke long before this.

Re: New retirement visa rule - show 800k every 3 months

I find it amusing that since Thailand announced it is going to enforce existing retirement visa laws, there is so much chatter about it in various forums.

Reminds me of what would happen if the US Government were to announce it was going disarm known criminals.
