Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark
Last night I took a stroll down Soi 80. The Hut - is open again, but at 8pm had only one girl on parade. I had it in mind to sample a Soi 80 eatery and wandered into Angie's Bistro . Although there were two tables spare, the manager explained that he'd just had a rush of people sit down and service ...

Re: China Coronavirus
In the YouTube era one has to be very wary of videos like this. 'Clickbait' videos can be very lucrative, and there is a big incentive to fake footage like this. It is not normal for people suffering a respiratory condition to suddenly keel over, and if they do struggle to keep upright due to lack o...

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark
Green Onion Location: Opposite the police station, Soi 61, about 50m from the traffic lights on the south side. The full name of this establishment is Green Onion BBQ and Craft Beer Bar. Originally run by an American, it closed in mid 2018 before being taken over a year ago by it's current owner, a...

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark
Year of the rat I was woken at an indecently early hour yesterday by a string of firecrackers close to my room. The succession of intermittent crackers going off reminded me of a business trip to China I made about 20 years ago, which happened to coincide with the most auspicious day of the year to...

Roma restaurant Location: Heading east down Selakam, take the left fork at Limelight bar, about 50m down on the right hand side. When I reviewed the neighboring Da Capo restaurant there was a comment from europtimiste that New Roma was better. Forgetting that he had said 'new' I decided to check th...

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark
I've just come from Father Teds, and 2 things came to mind: Are you vertically challenged? I'm not sizeist, and this is a genuine question. Nobody in my party (including 2 x 5' Thai ladies) were inconvenienced by the beer taps, and agreed they could have watched TV from a bar stool. This is quite a...

Suphatson massage Location: North end of Poonsuk Rd, past the dogleg with Dechanuchit, about 100m on the right walking from Dechanuchit This little shop caught my attention for advertising an oil massage for 250, instead of the ubiquitous 300. Inside I was offered a shower and shown to a reasonably...

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark
No Name bar Location: South side of Selakam, next door to Buckleys This bar flies the flag of Denmark and the clientele almost exclusively speak the Nordic languages (which I find impossible to tell apart) Why No Name? Was someone so bereft of ideas they came up with that.. - or does the English pr...

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark
Much as I love to read about your mooch about town (it’s bringing back some happy memories) I take issue with this. After five years’ living and working in Italy—Milan—my experience with Italians is that they are not a tipping race. I have been chased after by a barman when I left money for him in ...

And.. The Colonel is spot on! - did you also go for a stroll? Moving on: Buffalo Bill's (Also has a sign saying Ye Olde Buffalo Tavern) Location: On the corner of the fishing pier road and Soi 55, also known as Naresdamri Rd and Chomsin Rd I struggle to remember just how Ye Olde this place is, but i...

Re: New Chinese virus 'will have infected hundreds'
I was in China when SARS was at it's height. The measures they took were dramatic, but possibly not very effective. Can you imagine the UK authorities, in the face of a major epidemic, stopping every car on the M1 motorway to check that none of the occupants were running a fever? - That's basically ...

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark
Cool and very overcast this morning, I took an umbrella instead of a hat when I went to breakfast, although in the event there was only the lightest drizzle. There's been no rain of note in Hua Hin so far this year, and much of the country is suffering a severe drought. A good downpour wouldn't hurt...

Re: Possible customer heart attack in bar area
I was told last night that the gentleman who collapsed in C69 bar (nationality unknown) is now enjoying a drink in that great bar in the sky.
Whilst the suddenness will doubtless be a dreadful shock to his family, there are far worse ways to leave this life than quietly keeling over in a bar.
RIP

Re: Tom's travels - Hua Hin after dark
So, which is the cheapest place to eat and drink in the centre of town? Setting aside those places that are 100% Thai language, and of course, unless anyone knows better.. Talay bar - this name taken from the menus, the Chang sponsored vinyl banner over the bar reads 'Thale' Location: The little cul...
